Chiefs sign TE Becht

Haley buys some insurance at the TE position

The Chief's have signed journeyman TE Anthony Becht after Linebacker Brandon Siler goes down for the entire season with a torn Achilles Tendon.

Chiefs sign TE Anthony Becht

Becht will take Siler's spot on the roster and help provide insurance to coach Haley at the TE spot. Both Pope and Moeaki are experiencing health issues this preseason and Becht is bringing experience to this team. Becht played 10 NFL seasons with the Jets, Bucs, Rams and Cardinals but was out of the league in 2010.

Becht is not known particularly for his receiving skills with his best season came in 2003 with the Jets registering 40 catches that year. However, since 2006 Becht has caught more than 10 balls in any season. The Chiefs have been a very good TE utilized team throughout the years and have shown the ability to groom young talents like Tony Moeaki at the TE position so Becht should contribute more for this team especially if Moeaki and Pope are plagued with health issues this year.

Scott Pioli and Todd Haley almost traded Jamaal Charles away

Jamaal Charles Chiefs
Jamaal Charles - RB - Kansas City Chiefs

According to Adam Teicher the Kansas City Chiefs almost made a huge mistake, and I mean huge. According to sources, in 2009 when Scott Pioli and Todd Haley joined the Chiefs the Washington Redskins GM Vinney Cerrato phoned them up and offered a 4th round draft pick for Jamaal Charles. At the time Charles was 4th on the depth chart at the running back position behind Larry Johnson, Kolby Smith and Dantrelle Savage. Pioli and the Chiefs countered the offer by asking for a 3rd round draft pick in return for Charles. The Redskins declined and the two teams left it alone. Would Charles have been the same running back in Washington? I guess we will never know but the Chiefs really dodged a bullet on that one and Scott Pioli again makes the right move, somehow.

In/Out of the Gutter?

Jay Cutler Crying

It seems that every football season brings Cinderella stories and stories of tragedy and lost seasons and makes fools out of the so called "Experts". You can't blame those who get it wrong however due to instances like the Vikings and Cowboys complete destruction and the Chiefs and Bucs complete turn around

Good points Alias and Joe. Roddy White and Reggie Wayne are both worth mentioning on this list.

Is that a big difference? 2.1 points of extra efficiency don't seem like much but it depends on the scoring model. I'll check it out. Thanks for the heads up!

If we shouldn't gauge the best players based on stats then why do we keep such stats? What are they used for? Stats measures ones productivity don't they? I do think stats has some say-so in determining the best players. It sure playes a big role in the Hall of Fame inductions. What "efficiency" stats is MJD more efficient in anyways? Just curious..

on Top RB Money Isn't Enough For CJ: Is He Worth More?

August 17th 2011 15:06
CJ is a great back. One of the top 3 in the league, however, he is not one of the best 3 players in the league and should not be paid accordingly. Joe you are right, AP already makes too much. If CJ get's what he wants, guess what AP will want when his contract is up? The reason these guys get paid as much as they do is because of this kind of thing right here. They all want more money than the last.

To me, it has to be a mixture of stats, wins and guts. You can the best statistical QB in all of football but if it don't translate to wins, what's the point? Or, you can have a very average statistical QB and if it translates to wins, well that's all that matters. Rivers has not proven his worthiness as he cannot win when it matters, even with talent around him. I watched the 2010 KC Royals and watched Zack Greinke only win 12 games and get the Cy Young nod. So I know a player should not be measured on wins alone, but if Rivers cant do a little more with what he's got, it tells me he isn't elite... Not yet..

When I say "tools" I do mean talent. Steven Jackson has rushed for 1000 yards 7 out of his 8 year career and you don't do that without tools and MJD only two 1000 yard seasons out of 5. Jackson averages 41 catches per year and MJD averages 47 so to say MJD can catch better is a little far fetched. They both have bright spots and both are very effective backs in thier own rights!

You say that you hate it when a player is graded off of wins, and you hate it when they are graded off of statistics.. So what do you look for when deciding who is better? I am a little confused on how a guy that led the NFL in ypc and the 3rd most catches of 20 yards is over rated.I know he only had 47 catches and that's the knock on him, but at 22.5 ypc it's the same as Maclin getting his 70 catches at 13.8 ypc. Maclin had 33 more catches than Jackson but netted almost 100 less in yardage last year. Jackson was only a second year player last year and will be better in the next few years and I think that he has the speed, vision and catching ability to be a top 5 receiver in this league. Your argument about Roddy White is a good one. I mean he led the league in catches last year with 115, however he lacked the big play only averaging 12.1 ypc. See to you a better receiver is someone with crisp routes and good catching. To me, a good receiver is fast and can make you pay for any mistake you make. Again Joe, I appreciate the comments!

Thank you gentleman for the responses. Joe, good point on River's. I do think he is a little underated and don't get credit sometimes when credit is due. But that's what you get when your the AFC favorite for 4-5 season in a row and find a way to blow it every single year? I think the biggest knock on Rivers is that he has had some great defensive teams in SD that were good enough to make a playoff run and has had one of the best RB ever in LT, one of the best TE in Antonio Gates but still hasn't been able to get it done when it matters. I think he has the ability to be great but until he proves his worthiness he will always be just out of people's mind when it comes to debating the top 5 QB's of the league. I am sorry but I can't put Aaron Rodgers above Peyton, Mr. Consistant, or Tom Brady, Mr. Perfect. Maybe in due time Rodgers will creep up that list because as Timmy said "The list will change for the most part year to year." I am glad that I got you thinking and writing Joe. I feel that if I can make the reader do that then I am doing something right.

MJD is a fine back and does have some decent statistical numbers to put him up here, but to me Steven Jackson has more tools and more experience that puts him over MJD. Also, Charles finished with 6.4 ypc in the regular season. He was at 6.5 ypc until Weis called a draw right up the middle that went for a loss and knocked him back to 6.4. Either way, anything 6 for an entire season is just rediculous..

AP is just nasty when it comes to running people over and if you are bigger than he is, he don't have any problem shakin-n-bakin his way to the endzone! I used to watch him at OU and just know that he would be great.. I didn't know it would be this great though!
