Anne of Green Gables

October 28th 2010 17:21
The book Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery is a really vivid and heartwarming book for readers of all ages, both young and old. It tells the story of an 11 year old orphan girl named Anne shirley. Marrella and Matthew Cuthbert decide to adopt a boy to help them in their farm. But after many mishaps they end up getting Anne Shirley from an asylum. Anne is bright and quick, eager to please and talkative, but dissatisfied with her name, her pale countenance dotted with freckles, and with her long braids of red hair. Although wishing she was named Cordelia, she insists that if you are to call her Anne, it must be spelt with an 'E', as it is "so much more distinguished." Being a child of imagination, however, Anne takes much joy in life, and adapts quickly, thriving in the environment of Prince Edward Island. She is something of a chatterbox, and drives the prim, duty-driven Marilla to distraction, although shy Matthew falls for her immediately.

The rest of the book recounts her continued education at school, where she excels in studies very quickly, her budding literary ambitions and her friendships with people such as Diana Barry (her best friend, "bosom friend" as Anne fondly calls her), Jane Andrews, Ruby Gillis, and her rivalry with Gilbert Blythe, who teases her about her red hair and for that earns her hatred, although he apologizes many times. Anne and Gilbert compete in class and Anne one day realizes she no longer hates Gilbert, but will not admit it; at the end of the book, they both become very good friends.

The book also follows her misadventures in quiet, old-fashioned Avonlea. These adventures include her games with her friends (Diana, Jane and Ruby), her rivalries with the Pye sisters (Gertie and Josie), and her domestic mistakes such as dyeing her hair green or accidentally getting Diana drunk (by giving her what she thinks is raspberry cordial but is actually red wine). Anne, along with Gilbert, Ruby, Josie, Jane and several other students, eventually go to the Queen's Academy and obtains a teaching license in one year, in addition to winning the Avery Prize in English, which allows her to pursue a B.A. at Redmond College.

The book ends with Matthew's death, caused by a heart attack after learning of the loss of all his and Marilla's money. Anne shows her devotion to Marilla and Green Gables by giving up the Avery Prize, deciding to stay at home and help Marilla, whose eyesight is diminishing, and teaching at the Carmody school, the nearest school available. To show his friendship, Gilbert Blythe gives up his teaching position in the Avonlea School to work at White Sands School instead, thus enabling Anne to teach at the Avonlea School and stay at Green Gables all through the week. After this kind act, Anne and Gilbert become friends, and Anne is proud of following the "bend in the road

Over the years the book series was made into a movie series. The most popular movie is the 1985 movie version of Anne of Green Gables directed by Kevin Sullivan. Starring Megan Follows as Anne Shirley, Jhonathan Crombie as Gilbert Blythe, Colleen Dewherst as Marella Cuthbert, Richard Farnsworth as Matthew Cuthbert, and Schuyler Grant as Diana Barry. It aired on CBC on December 1, 1985 in Canada and on PBS on February 17, 1986 in the USA.

Maximum Ride, School's Out Forever, James Patterson, science-fiction, novel, thriller
Maximum Ridechool's Out Forever book cover
Dear Reader,

Well here i am again with my second review of my favorite science-fiction book series by James Patterson. In the second installment of this amazing action-packed book series is "Maximum Ride: School's Out Forever" well if you have read the first book "Maximum Ride:The Angel Experiment then you already know who Max, Fang, Nudge, and the rest of the flock are. But if you are just starting out fresh by reading their second installment then don't worry! because in this second book you can meet Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, The Gasman, and Angel, they are six absolutely unforgettable kids. With some major problems. They are being hunted down by killers. Even worse Max is sure they inserted her a microchip under her skin leading freakish forces to hunt her and the rest of the flock at any moment...and WORSE!

Max and the Others are supposed to save the world. But are clueless as to how?, when?, and what?

Max will not rest and stop at nothing to find the answers. There is one thing she does know, is the astonishing ability that no one else has is the ability to FLY.

After the events of Maximum Ride:The Angel Experiment, the flock heads toward Washington D.C. where they hope to find the answers to their origins. However after Fang is gravely injured, by a flying Eraser, Ari, and then taken to the hospital, the flock is housed by an FBI Agent named Anne on the agreement that she is allowed to examine them. The flock meanwhile enjoys a rare period of peace, even attending a private school. However a multi-national corporation named Itex, is plotting to destroy the world, based on what Angel heard on the first book when she was kidnapped back at the school, and is also tracking down the flocks movements. Later on in the book Anne reveals herself as a member of the lab that created the flock, and seeks to recapture them. And after that, Max must face her most adversary yet-her own clone to either destroy it or have it destroy her.

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

September 9th 2010 18:19
Dear Readers,

I never even thought i would like this book but once i started reading it i got hooked. It's called "Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment" by James Patterson is a book that was released on April 11, 2005 in the USA and in the UK in July 4, 2005. the book is set in the near future, and centers around the flock, a group of human-avian hybrids that are (98%human and 2%bird)on the run from the scientists who created them. the story mainly focuses on Maximum Ride who is the leader of the flock, and the first person narrator of the story.

Maximum Ride and her flock- Fang, Iggy, Nudge, The Gasman, and Angel are the result of a genetic experiment inflicted upon then at the time of their birth that made them recombinant DNA life-forms. Grafted with avian DNA, gifted with wings, enhanced to fly, they are constantly on the run from the scientists who made them. They are also constantly tracked by Lupine-Human hybrids, or otherwise mainly known as Erasers designed by the scientists to hunt them down with a childhood close friend of the flock's newly turned Eraser Ari, at their head. When Angel is kidnapped by the Erasers, it is up to the flock to rescue her. As they embark on their mission, fleeing from the Erasers at every point, they are also faced with the question of their origins. Ultimately an even larger and more important task emerges for Max alone to face- is saving the world itself.

I personally enjoyed reading this science-fiction novel because it really has a'lot of action, and because it gives an insight at what orphaned kids go through without ever knowing if they're parents are still alive, and if they care about them still. That is what Max and her flock go through along the story.

Flipped
Flipped book cover.
Flipped is the book that is told from two alternating view points: the boy and the girl. It all begins when they are 7 years old and ends the story when they are 13 years old. And this shows how much they have to learn about love, and relationships! Juli realizes that to-die-for blue eyes are not the best reason to fall in love with a boy. On the other hand Bryce learns that people who live in houses with dumpy yards might be cool people. Bryce's first worry is n ot Juli's house but Juli herself. The girl won't leave him alone! for example she runs over to Bryce's family while they're still moving in, climbs into the moving van and actually takes over. Somehow Bryce runs through the whole story, sometimes just to litterarilly stay away from her.

Of course Juli sees this in a totally different perspective. The boy needs help in life; and she's more than happy to help him, besides his eyes make her weak all over. Sometimes she just sits in her driveway and stares at his house, wondering why he won't come out
