Free Zinnia Square Crochet Pattern

Materials:
Small amounts worsted weight yarn in orange, green and white
Size J crochet hook
Size: 4 1/4" square
Note: To work cluster (cl) , (yo, insert hook in st, yo, draw yarn through st) twice (5 loops now on hook), yo, draw through all 5 loops on hook
Rnd 1: With orange, ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring, ch 1, (cl, ch 1) 6 times in ring, join w sl st in top of 1st cl (6 clusters plus 6 ch 1 sp).
Rnd 2: Sl st in 1st ch 1 sp, (cl, ch 1) twice in same sp, (cl, ch 1) twice in next ch 1 sp and in each ch 1 sp around, join as before, fasten off (12 cl plus 12 ch 1 sp).
Rnd 3: Join green w sl st in ch 1 sp to left of last joining st in Rnd 2, (ch 3, dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same st, 2 hdc in each of next 2 ch 1 sp, * (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch 1 sp, 2 hdc in each of next 2 ch 1 sp, * rep from * to * around, join w sl st in 1st dc, fasten off (16 dc plus 4 ch 3 sp plus 16 hdc).
Rnd 4: Join white w sl st in any ch 3 sp, ch 2, 4 hdc in same ch 3 sp, hdc in each of next 8 st, * 5 hdc in next ch 3 sp, hdc in each of next 8 st, * rep from * to * around, join w sl st in 1st hdc, fasten off (52 hdc).
Weave in ends.

p.s. if I do not have any green yarn, could I possibly use another color for that part or would the whole outcome of the "Zinna" not look like a zinna? sorry, this question may sound dumb, but I must ask

I would just skip the green and use white around it. I always use the colors I have on hand, which are usually few!
If you want a puffier flower, just wrap the yarn around an extra time or two in the cluster instructions and draw through 7 loops, etc.
