Free Stuffed Animal Hat Crochet Pattern

This hat is designed specifically for the Webkinz full-size Peppermint Pup but will fit some other full-size Webkinz animals, too. For an everyday hat, crochet in any color yarn. For a holiday hat, crochet in red or green and add the peppermint applique.
Materials:
Small amounts worsted weight yarn in red and white
Size H crochet hook
Gauge: 2 rnds dc=1"
Rnd 1: With red, ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring, ch 3, 11 dc in ring, join w sl st in top of ch 3 (12 dc).
Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same dc, 2 dc in next dc and in each dc around, join as before (24 dc).
Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in next 5 dc, ch 6, sk 2 dc , dc in next 11 dc, ch 6, sk 2 dc, dc in last 3 dc, join as before (20 dc plus 2 ch 6 ear hole spaces).
Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in each dc and in each ch sp around, join as before (32 dc).
Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in each dc around, join as before, fasten off (32 dc). Weave in ends.
Optional Peppermint Applique
With white, ch 4, join w sl st in 1st ch to form ring, ch 1, 8 sc in ring, join w sl st in 1st sc, fasten off (8 sc). Weave in ends.
With an 18" length of red yarn, sew peppermint to front of hat as shown using overcast stitches. Weave in ends. (Where you joined rounds is the back of the hat).
