India’s Press Information Bureau announced in a recent press release that India has developed the world’s cheapest tablet. This touch-screen computing device will be available in 2011 and will cost $35.00. It is expected to drop to $20.00 and finally to a mere $10.00!
Although the information regarding its hardware is sketchy, it is portable and has a 7 inch touch-screen. It will have office software, a PDF reader, web browser and media player included in the price. The software is linux based and will be open source.
Other capabilities include video conferencing, remote device management and have multi-media input and output ability.
According to Minister Kapil Sibal, India’s Human Resource Development Minister, “We have reached a (developmental) stage that today; the motherboard, its chip, the processing, connectivity, all of them cumulatively cost around $35, including memory, display, everything.”
It’s amazing that technology has become so cheap! At the projected final cost of $10.00 I would think it will have an impact on other manufacturers worldwide.
StoryJumper is a neat website that helps you create and publish your own children’s book using photos, text and simple images in just minutes. If you are concerned that you don’t know where to begin, they offer a guide to help you.
The first thing you will need to do is register on their site and verify your e-mail address. Then you can start. If you need to be inspired, there is a green explore button that allows you to review some of the books that have been created. You can also personalize some of them.
Once you have a story idea you simply start with each page. You are able to select a background, add images and write your text.
If you are stuck they offer a step-by-step guide to help you through the process. As each page is complete, you can add others until your book is done.
When your book is completed, you can share it with a link, embed it in a blog or even offer it to the public for sale. If you are so inclined, you can even order a printed version of it.
You can create and print other things like a treasure map or a pre-written story. StoryJumper is designed to create your own story and allows you to print and share it free. It is simple enough so your children can create their own stories too.
