Why Is Comfortable Clothing Considered Unprofessional?

I don't have a good answer to that question and I'm not convinced that there is one. I did write a sonnet about that topic, and this is the first time that I'm submitting a sonnet not written the same day as when it was posted. Here it is, lightly edited:
I hate the constant need for formal wear
It seems that its purpose is to keep those
Who can’t pay for several sets of those clothes
From moving up and that just isn’t fair
I’d rather wear a tee shirt I don’t care
If wearing a suit looks good in a pose
The tie hurts my neck and shoes hurt my toes
Fancy and comfy together are rare
I'd don a tie for a formal event
But people now wear them an awful lot
Since recently society forgot
What the concept of Sunday clothes once meant
As long as the workers don’t look like slobs
Clothing should not matter much in most jobs
I hate the constant need for formal wear

Who can’t pay for several sets of those clothes
