Forgiveness
January 12th 2007 17:37
Forgiveness can be a subtle thing.
Sometimes, it can only be seen
by seeing nothing.
Forgiveness is not fickle
or humiliating.
A foundation for the future
not to fall into the past.
Forgiveness is a reminder
of what once was.
It doesn't forget.
It doesn't let you forget.
Forgiveness is a dish best served warm
after an apologetic appetizer.
Like a nourishing meal to
quicken healing from the illness
of failure to change.
Forgiveness is powerful
in its ability to let go.
To heal, to mend, to continue on...
...where you are today.
Sometimes, it can only be seen
by seeing nothing.
Forgiveness is not fickle
or humiliating.
A foundation for the future
not to fall into the past.
Forgiveness is a reminder
of what once was.
It doesn't forget.
It doesn't let you forget.
Forgiveness is a dish best served warm
after an apologetic appetizer.
Like a nourishing meal to
quicken healing from the illness
of failure to change.
Forgiveness is powerful
in its ability to let go.
To heal, to mend, to continue on...
...where you are today.

Do you think its necessary for the person who wronged you to apologize in order to forgive them? Or is forgiveness more about you letting go of the pain, frustration and sadness someone caused you even if they are not sorry they did it?

I wish we still lived in a society in which that recipe had value. Today, it is dusty and sitting in the very back of the recipe box. *smile*
This poem was based on the old saying, "Do it once, shame on you, do it twice, shame on me."
I can't wait to check out your blog.

Interesting question.
This poem isn't really about someone asking for forgiveness...it's about giving it. Ideally, anytime someone hurt someone, they would ask for forgiveness. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case, is it? However, I do believe it is essential for someone to give forgiveness for being wronged, for themselves ultimately, to let go of the pain and move on.
I think if you read the poem again, this may be a little more apparent than after the first reading...or at least, I hope so. That was the intention. Remember, I am still learning...in college and all that. lol

I realise you will [delete] this ... but who knows ...? (Only God and He's not telling us? Yet?) ... You might even read it before you do ...
In my heart?
In relation to you?
There's really only one thought ...
And that is ...
I sincerely hope one day ... that you publish a novel ... and that it is as good as the stuff you used to write ...
Because you can write ...
in a way that very few people can ...
So [delete] away ...
To me?
I could have kept what I've just written in my heart ... because it's tattooed on my heart (soul) in indelible ink anyway ...
I don't need to see it on a computer screen ...
I just thought you might like to read it ...
And that's pretty much it ...
Me? I don't wish evil upon others ... I might have the occasional outburst, that makes it seem like that, but deep down? Nup ... Not my style ... Not me at all ...
So, before you delete this ... have a great 2007 ... (you and all of your family) ... have a great life ... and ... hurry up and publish a book, so I can read it ... and bloody send me a signed copy ... via ... [name of website deleted] ....
And rest in peace ...
There is no anger channeling coming from this end ... (a bit of flatulence ... sure ... but that's garlic and chillis ... ***
David ...
