Ford Ranger Cup Final
February 27th 2010 10:14
An exciting finish to the 2009/2010 Australian Cricket Summer is on the way as the Bushrangers look to claim all 3 domestic cups this season, for the first time ever, that stat was easy to find out because they haven't won this competition since 1998/99 when Paul Reiffel took 2/30 the last time this game was played on the 28th. It's their fourth final in a row but they've lost twice to the Bulls at the G and once to the Tigers in Hobart in between. This time it's the Tigers at the G, and they haven't lost a final since 1986/87, although they've only made two in that time and five in the history of one day cricket - losing in 77/78, winning a year later, losing in 86/87, winning in 04/05 and again in 07/08.
As if it wasn't going to be hard enough to get people to go and watch North play Freo. It's cheaper too and they've made it even cheaper with an adult can take a child for free offer. The Tigers have found the going hard against the Bushrangers this season, and have already coughed up over 300 runs against them in a past one day encounter this summer, the Tigers came from last to make the final after their two big wins, one against the Bulls and another against the Redbacks, and now they are attempting a massive achievement, and it would be good for Tasmanian cricket if the Tigers could get over the line.
But can they? Standing in the way is Brad Hodge, Aiden Blizzard and Chris Rogers, all of which can make big scores and let's not forget former Tasmanian Matthew Wade who can also get the job done, the Tigers have lost Travis Birt to Australian duty in New Zealand, and the Victorians have since lost Dirk Nannes as well. Tim Paine remains as does Dighton both are going to need to make a big score for Tasmania.
Xavier Dohery has hit fine form the for Tigers in his last two Ford Ranger Cup games, bowling early in the innings he has managed to capture 5 wickets for very little runs if Tasmania are to win he will probably need to do this again because Victoria does have a very talented batting line up and with Hodge looking to scale back his career he is going to want to lift some silverware.
The inernational summer of cricket in Australia was a very disappointing one, but one form of cricket has really been excting and that has been the Ford Ranger Cup, the Twenty20 domestic cricket has been a hit with the fans and will be revamped so that there are cities with some teams next season.
Back on the game, sadly for Tasmanian the Victorians are going to continue to dominate them, even though Tasmania has had the wood over the Victorians, at least in Tasmania in finals beating them in their last final down at Bellerive on a very miserable day. But now they are playing at the MCG the occasion may see the Big V step up and win the game.
