You rocked me in your arms
Wrapped up in my quilt
Hummed some lullabys
Sang a lively lilt
Sat up all night with me
When I was sick and couldn't sleep
Stroked my hair and frowned
When the pain would make me weep
You praised me when I did good
Scolded me when I was bad
Gave me milk and cookies
When you saw that I was sad
They called you "just a housewife
That you didn't have a job
When you read the list forthcoming
It will make you want to sob
Swept and moped the floors
Cooked meals and washed the dishes
Washed and ironed our clothes
Our old blue jeans in stitches
You dressed our cuts and bruises
The bumps upon our heads
Bathed and dressed the little ones
Tucked them in their beds
Doing work, she sings or whistles
She's done it all her life
She's had more than ten jobs
Don't call her "just a housewife"
