Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

Flashes of memories - January 2008

Um.... new zealand.... in bits.........

Why is it that Game Rangers are always so gorgeous? It must have something to do with the wild and rugged terrain they work in. A loud thumping on the car broke into my dreams and continued as I tried to force it away. Let`s face it none of us look our best first thing in the morning. All the dust of the park had played havoc with my allergies so my eyes were mere slits and I had a nose that would have put Rudolf's to shame. My hair was a Medusa`s of writhing, snaking curls and I wrenched back the curtain with probably more force than was necessary. Standing mere inches away was man.... this Adonis clad in his sexy grey uniform and looking all.... manly with the rugged mountains in the background just to prove the point!

Clera the throat. Try and tame the wild hair. OPEN THE EYES. And in a lady-like manner open the sliding door

New Zealand actually DOES have lots of sheep!

After my normal drama`s of getting through Immigration (Yep I got detained this time too!) we arrived in New Zealand 5 days ago and it all seems to have been a flash and a blur. Christchurch was very pretty - such a mix of old and new and rounded off perfectly with the World Buskers Championships floating off the streets. An amazing array of bright flowers are scattered through out the city and around what seems to be every corner, are tree-lined parks just begging for you to lie under their shady trees. The lazy line of the River Avon curves through the buildings, glimpses of punters pushing their dreamy eyed clients along the shallow water in their flat bottom boats.

Bon Jovi was just amazing - what more can I say? The stadium was HUGE and crowded with adoring fans, us sitting right up the front and screaming and singing along with the others. I can`t believe I am about to say this but - Robbie Williams ain`t got NUFINK on these guys! They were incredible! And my voice is only just coming back now after 2 days

What`s up with those annoying habits?

If I were cast as a Dwarf in real life I would probably be cast as Grumpy. That`s just me… and this weekend I have been playing my part to Oscar Award winning standard. But I do have good reason for it… things around the house that frustrate me and things that neighbours do for all the neighbourhood to hear.

Living with other people can be frustrating at the best of times and at one point or another our inner Grumpy bashes those other Dwarves back and really takes centre stage. So here is a list of just a few things that frustrate me around the house

The night the world changed... End

We chose random roads to turn down, the car still following. The night seemed to get darker and close in around us, the beaming lights offering no sign of hope in the distance, only offering a view of a small patch of tarmac ahead. Like a ship sailing through unchartered waters we pressed on.

Finally the lights swept the road in a bright arc and turned off, leaving us alone in our silence. Breathing a sigh of relief we joked uneasily about it for the rest of the way home, the drags on our final cigarettes gulped, calming unsteady nerves

The night the world changed... Part 2

It was three years later. The world had certainly changed, although so far we had managed to remain physically unscathed. My French teacher, a pleasant woman approaching 80, was found bound and gagged in her house, murdered for no reason. The 7 year old nephew of a close friend ran terrified through the neighbourhood, after 4 armed men walked into their house and held a gun to his mothers head. He managed to escape unnoticed through the bedroom window and was looking for help.

We listened at night to the barking dogs, learning with chilling accuracy to speak their language. There was a certain tone warning of danger. From the tiny cracks in the curtains we watched as shadows prowled the night, the backyard no longer a place for playtime. On some nights a gunshot would shatter the silence, waking one from the deepest of slumber and sending a chill through even the hottest of blood. Night was no longer a time of rest. It was a time when the senses were most active and the mind most alert

The night the world changed... Part 1

The cool handle of the gun felt unnatural in the palm of my hand. I willed my fingers to close around it, making sure my index finger stayed off the trigger. Feeling the sweat start to rise, I gripped tighter, imagining the sound of it hitting the tiled floor if it slipped. The bullet was like an icicle on my skin as I held it between my fingers and examined the copper shine, the perfect manufacture of it.

It
