Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

The Travelling Dreamer

Sunlight filtered down through dappled leaves.
Dreams scampered off as tired eyelids forced open.
The forest floor was cool against her cheek

Surfing rules!

Welcome to my rant! I hope you enjoy your stay.

I was listening to an author being interviewed on the radio this morning. He is a keen surfer and from what I could gather, from parts of the interview I caught, was that he travelled around the world interviewing surfers and really searching for that core reason why it is such a popular pastime. What is it about surfing that makes it so addictive

Places of peace and quiet.

It seems like all the houses that I have lived and stayed in have always led me to one particular feature that soon becomes my favourite - a window. And not just any one, it will always be one window in particular. The scenery has not always been the best, in fact sometimes people have thought I was a little batty (just for a change!) because of my interest in a brick wall or a run-down Estate on the other side.

One window always stands out in my mind. It lives in my best friends house far away on the other side of the world. There is something about it that draws me there, to its quiet spot in the corner of the room, normally unnoticed by most

SBS Special: Running from Mugabe

This is really short notice but my attention was only drawn to it this afternoon. This evening at 8:30pm SBS will be screening a documentary entitled: Running from Mugabe.

I am not sure the exact ins and outs of the programme but it should be worth the watch to get an idea of life in countries where people live in fear on a daily basis

What next?

First we had the 'Bonsai Kittens' which were allegedly 'grown' in glass bottles to get a unique shape to them and now we have the threat of 'Glowing Pets'. Genetically modified animals that glow in the dark!

I was shocked by this. Genetically modifying creatures so that they can glow in the dark?! What next? (or perhaps I shouldn`t ask!) The website www.glowingpets.com proudly announces 'Fun with Glow-in-the-dark Pets and Animals' and then goes on to show photos of fish, monkeys and elephants and what they will look like after their 'modification'. Don`t want that? No problem because they have a whole store of merchandise where you can buy clothes to sport your 'new and improved' pet

Journalism 101

Calling all readers and writers and anyone with an opinion!

I am not much of a magazine or newspaper reader. I have my online newspaper which I browse through everyday to keep up with current affairs. I may flick through a travel magazine every now and again and I read the headlines on the covers of my sisters celeb mags which she leaves in the bathroom. That`s it... that`s about the extent of reading I do with regards to that sort of literature

The Story of Wheels

Wheels is the nickname of my 25 year old cousin, aptly so because he is in a wheelchair. He suffers from a condition known as Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease or CMT, named after the three doctors who discovered it in 1886. It is a hereditary disease in which the nerves do not function normally meaning that there is little or no stimulation to the muscles. Cases differ from individual to individual, with some having few limitations and others much more serious ones. Wheels' brother leads a perfectly normal life with only a slight hunch in his shoulder whereas Wheels is wheelchair bound and is unable to do simple things like straighten his fingers or tie his shoelaces. It is not a fatal disease and it does not affect the brain. Unfortunately at present there is no cure, however with the use of braces and physical therapy sufferers can prolong the deterioration of their condition and increase their mobility.

The treatment of disabled people infuriates me intensely. I have been trying for a while now to convince Wheels to come to Australia. There is hardly any support for disabled people in South Africa and I have recently found out that the information he has received from his doctors there is very antiquated, which is only going to see him get worse. (I am no Doctor and do not profess to be one, however with the new research findings from the CMT organization in America it has been shown that the advice which he is being given is now obsolete
