Flashes of memories - MUGABE MUST GO!!! ZIMBABWEANS NEED THEIR HOME BACK

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year's course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word 'happy' would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness - Carl Jung To be at one with God is to be at peace ... peace is to be found only within, and unless one finds it there he will never find it at all. Peace lies not in the external world. It lies within one's own soul. - Ralph Waldo Trine

What surrounds your daily world?

Do you ever wonder what you are surrounded by? You walk into your house almost everyday and everything is more or less the same. The same room, in the same place, filled with the same objects. However, what about the ground that those foundations lie on? What else has happened on this site as the many footsteps of weary travellers have crossed its path?

African Sun
When I lived in Africa our house was supposedly on the site where an African village flourished for many years. It was the birth place of many warriors and many women who toiled under the hot sun. The sand was washed by many a tear that fell from a childs face and the words of tales told around crackling fires still whisper amongst the leafy branches of the ancient trees. Once a river ran pretty much where the tarred road now follows the slow descent down the hill. Fish would have swum here, some ending up in the bellies of these people, others swimming on to meet another demise. Now new houses lie here, new tears fall to the ground and new people walk the land. There is no river anymore, dried up and covered by the scar of tar that hides its history.

We have been scammed - it is not 2007, it is only 1710!

I thought something was wrong when I woke up this morning. The world seemed a little different. And then I turned on the computer and the shocking truth was revealed...We have been scammed into thinking it is 2007, when in fact it is only 1710! Conspiracy theories have plagued the world for centuries, they are the stuff that good gossip is based upon. We have heard the ones about Princess Di, about the Illuminati, about the Moon Landings...the list goes on. So have you heard the one about the 'Phantom Time Hypothesis'? Heribet Illig claims that the entire Early Middle Ages did not exist

Sometimes...you have to look at things through the lens of a camera

I was down at the beach today for my Godson`s birthday. I cannot believe that he is 12 already. I remember the first time I felt him kick in his mum`s tummy. I remember the day he came home from the hospital. I remember feeding him, telling him a Pirate story and rocking him to sleep while I walked in the back yard and searched the stars. I remember the day he walked over to me and said, "Will you be my fairy Godmother?"

I love that boy, we have a bond him and I, his love is unconditional and so is mine. I wonder when the day will come when it becomes uncool to hug me in public or when his Saturday phone calls will soon become monthly phone calls

Do you think for yourself?

Do you think for yourself?
Africa is a land of great beauty, however as beautiful as it is, it is also plagued by trouble and can be cruel and unkind. Recently I went to see ‘Blood Diamond’, the latest Leonardo DiCaprio movie and was blown away by it. It opened my eyes to something that I was vaguely aware of, but did not fully understand the reasons behind.

Are you happy in your own company?

I often go to the movies by myself. I love it. Escaping for a couple of hours into a cool and dark cinema, leaving everything outside in the real world while you jump into a fantasy land and become part of a scene you can sometimes only dream of

'Tis time to say goodbye....

The new year has begun with a bang, many things to do, many things to start and other paths to travel down. Unfortunately we only have so many hours in the day to do these things and it is a struggle to meet the demands of Orble as well as juggle everything else at the same time

What is the most unusual gift you have received?

The sun was just starting to sink in the sky and the day fade into night. Stars were starting to shine above, tiny pinpricks of light in an intensely black heaven. It was hot and dusty and silhouetted on a rock overlooking a darkening valley were two people, huddled closely together, whispering. The boy poured some more of the wine into the girls glass and took a sip before reaching behind him to get a red box, closed tightly with a green ribbon. He kissed her softly before giving it to her, which she took with excited hands. Before she could open it he reached over and stopped her fingers by wrapping his over them. "Remember things are not always what they seem" he whispered.
A little confused the girl gently pulled the ribbon loose from the box and let it fall onto her lap. She looked up at him through the semi-darkness quickly, seeing his eyes smile as he watched her. The lid popped off easily and inside she saw....nothing! The box was empty. She felt inside it to see if her treasure was hiding at the bottom, but still she found nothing. "I don`t understand", she whispered back, a confused look on her brow.
"Just think about it." he replied. The minutes ticked by and still she did not understand what he meant by this gift. As she lay in bed that night she continued to stare at the box, begging for an answer from it, but none came. The days continued to pass and still the boy would not answer her questions, until eventually she grew tired of the box and put it away

What do you want to be when you grow up?

The mind of a child is so full of wonder and impressions last for a only a few moments before the next one takes its place. I remember when I was younger I wanted to be everything - I wanted to be a drummer, I wanted to drive those big trucks we all hate so much as adults all around the world, I wanted to be a game ranger in some wild and exotic national park. These were a little worrying to the family - "Don't worry though, she will pass through this, she is a child, she will grow out of it".
Then as I grew older and was learning more about the ways of the world I began to learn that these jobs were 'not fit for a young lady' and something more 'respectable' was to be followed. So I decided I wanted to be a photographer. Again that was not considered a 'respectable job for a young lady to pursue. It was one of those jobs that was for 'other' people, other people who were not me.
By now the days were clicking away on the calendar and school was coming to an end and again the questions of what was going to happen when I left were floating around and ideas put into my head. So I decided I wanted to become a teacher and then later a psychologist. These were considered to be much more 'respectable' jobs, Uni went well and off I set on the road to success

Are you a product of your environment?

If we are products of our environment, then how come we so obviously do not fit into it at times? People say you can choose your friends, but you cannot choose your family. How true?!

We are all the product of two peoples contributed genes, whether you are adopted, whether you are orphaned, whether you have one parent you are biologically related to and another you are not – everyone has that one common tie – you are the product of two others

What would you save?

So you are standing in your house as the flames start to lick the walls and floors and the smoke is curling through the air and you know you have to get out. Everyone is safe - your family, your pets, it is just you in there. And you can save only one thing from your house, the place where all your memories are stored and all your material possessions are collected.
So what would you save? What one thing would you wrap in a protective bubble to make sure that it is still there after the flames have blackened everything else?

A Story of Determination...Part 2

The years passed and a deep depression fell over the boy. He would lock himself away in his room and watch endless hours of TV, refusing to go anywhere or do anything. His face became covered with long, course hair and his eyes grew grey and steely. He would sit in his wheelchair from day to night then throw himself into bed and dream dreams of running through grassy meadows.

His mum was a special kind of lady. She loved him from the depths of her being and it hurt her soul to think of how her son was suffering. She refused to let him give in and bought him a computer, in the hopes that it would give him something to occupy his mind and allow him to build some more confidence in himself. When he first got it, he looked at it and snorted, “What must I do with that? Can you not see my fingers don’t work?” That computer stayed on the desk for months, not even turned on but he would stare at it through the corners of his eyes when he was alone in the room

A Story of Determination...Part 1

I know this boy…I have watched him grow to be a determined and headstrong young man. When he was younger he would love to run. He played soccer and cricket and every sport he could possibly play, but most of all he would love to run. His little legs were long but thin and his knees bulged slightly in small, round knobs. He had a hop in his step, as if he danced his way through life.

As he grew older, instead of his muscles growing stronger they began to weaken and pull into tight spasms. His many operations at attempts to fix them left his body scarred and weak. Soon he could no longer run as his feet became heavy lumps on the ends of his legs and dragged in his slow effort to walk. His fingers began to curl up toward the palms of his hands, as if he were tightly clenching them in constant anger

Reflections in the Mirror Pt 2

As the days turned to nights and the nights back to days, the shadow over her heart grew darker and she drew quieter. The years sped by and anger began to rage, deep-seated and strong. The world took on a hazy glow and the people around turned to snarling animals. Fear gripped her dreams so that late into the night when the world around was soundly sleeping she would wrap herself in her blanket and peer out from underneath until the walls became tinged pink with the glow of the sun. She learned to smile on the outside, to speak the words others needed to hear, while inside winter touched with frosty fingers. However, there was always a small flame that continued to burn. It hid its light for many years, but it was strong and refused to be extinguished.

Soon she discovered books and the power of words. Swashbuckling adventures, flying chairs, far off lands - every night a new adventure and a new place to get lost in. Her mind began to fill with questions and ideas. So many possibilities swirled around in her head that she was often left dizzy and exhausted. The girl grew into a woman and soaked up everything she could find to read. She learned to smile, but the shadow still filled her heart

Reflections in the Mirror

Once there was a girl who was loved by so many. Everyone gurled and fussed around her as a baby. She learned to laugh and skip and jump and play and became the happiest girl in the world. Then one day a dark shadow fell over the girls heart. Her eyes lost their twinkle and her laughter lost its shine. She became quiet and withdrawn and slowly her words turned to thoughts.

There was no explanation for this. Everyone just thought she was growing up. 'She was no longer a little girl she was becoming a lady now,' they said. She looked at them with scorn in her heart. Why did they not understand? Why did she not understand? Questions began to fill her mind that would go unanswered, but she was a child...what did she know of adult things
