Five Phone Apps for Photographers
July 8th 2010 15:03
I am sure that you recall the commercial whose tagline is “There’s an app for that”. There are many apps available for photographers to use and it is difficult to know which ones will give you the results you are looking for. Following is a review of five of what we believe to be the best apps for photographers. Some of them are free which makes trying them out an easy decision.
1. Photoshop Mobile: This app takes our number one spot because it is free. Photoshop Mobile allows you to store up to 2GB of your videos and photos online. You can access them whenever you wish, and it is a great way to backup the photos from your phone. Photoshop Mobile options include color correction, borders, special effects, contrast adjustment and cropping. Most photos taken with a phone turn out flat. Photoshop Mobile’s editing tools takes care of this and actually makes your photos and videos look professional. You can also upload your photos to Facebook and Twitter.
2. Colorsplash: Colorsplash priced at $1.99, is actually an excellent app. It allows you to color a black and white image selectively. In other words, you can color certain parts of your photographs to help draw attention to them.
3. Hipstamatic: The Hipstamatic app priced at $1.99 enables you to turn your IPhone into an analog camera. It is as if you are using film and flash. You can set the flash settings and use virtual lenses for great effects.
5. SneakyPix: SneakyPix is currently free but may not be for long. A unique app allows you to hold your IPhone to your ear while it takes photos. This sneaky app takes a photo every four seconds. No one will be aware because it appears that you are simply talking on your phone. You might even become a Paparazzi with SneakyPix overnight!
These five apps can be fun and can actually help you take great photographs and video. One other app that you should consider is Dropbox. Deopbox is free and offers 2GB of storage for your photos and videos. It creates a folder on your desktop computer or your laptop. All files you place in this folder are stored in their cloud safely. You have access to them at any time using your home computer or with the IPhone app and is a great way to backup your work.
