First Time
August 20th 2010 11:46
I'm a little embarrassed to admit this because it will give away my age, but tomorrow for those living in Australia will be the first time that I have ever voted. Yes, that's how young I am. As much as I wanted to vote in the 07 election I was simply too young. I don't really want to politics to get involved but I think given the times and the situation I probably should. So it's the night before polling booths open and as the leaders frantically get votes I'm still undecided. I'm trying to choose between the lesser of the two evils. I know people will say why don't I vote a completely different party that isn't the Liberals or Labor but let's face it this in this 'democracy' there is really a two party dichotomy and regardless of what party I choose to vote some their votes will go to one of the major parties (e.g. The Greens). I mean don’t get me wrong I love having the right to vote and being able to vote is highly liberating but the choice is limited in the sense every party has not really committed to anything I want or the real changes that need to be done are being ignored or pushed aside and not dealt with. Throwing money at things does very little to solve the underlying problems.
