Final move to AdSense accounts

January 17th 2007 02:52
It would be great if everyone could move over to having their own AdSense account by the end of this month.

You can read how to do so here.

Many thanks to those that have done so already, which is pretty much everyone.

Having your own AdSense account will make no difference to your earnings. The only difference is that you will be paid directly by Google rather than Orble.

The reason we have to move everyone over to having their own account is because Google only provides a certain number of channels which we need to track the earnings of each writer. We long ago exceeded this number. It will also help us reduce the amount of time spent on administration -- which we can spend instead on improving Orble!

There are also a number of other benefits including more detailed revenue statistics and the abiltiy to earn money writing for blogs which you do not moderate.

I very much appreciate everyones understanding on this. We really had no choice but to make the change and it's better than the old system anyway.

Unfortunately we will no longer be able to pay people for earnings from Feburary on through the old Orble system.

Also once you have your own AdSense account do not start clicking on your own ads! We have already had one person's AdSense account disabled and once that has happened there is not much we can do.

If you have any questions or need any help either leave a comment or PM Charles.

Thanks,
Jon.

Hi Jon,

Is it possible to add a Google search box to our blogs?

I inadvertently signed up for adsense search as well as adsense content, and I think I'm now contractually obliged to stick a search box somewhere.

Adrian -- if you signed up for search you do not have to put a search box anywhere.

I've tried to add my Roving Report blog to Google, but it says channel names must be no more than 30 characters. How do I get round that?

You need to just add www.orble.com not www.orble.com/mike.... and it should be a URL channel not a regular channel.

You had no trouble adding webitz.net? and you added it as a URL channel, not a regular channel?

Let me know how you get on.

i had opened an adsense account sometime back..but could not find login or password..so i asked google for help.i haven't heard from them since.do u think i should sign up again..? i don't want to mess up coz i have heard they are very strict about adsense..advice anyone??

@Bhumika, you should not sign up again, Google does not allow multiple adsens accounts on the same name and address.

@Adrian, you need not to put the search engines or ads even if you have signed up for everything. That's the facility google will provide you incase you want to use later.

For new bloggers, i had come across a page somewhere.. got it. So
This guy tried to explain how to go about Google adsense new accounts & how to make most of it.

hsvhsv -- thanks!

Jon, could I ask you a favour? Would you be able to drop by my site and tell me if you see any ads displaying. I've checked on two different computers, and wasn't able to see any, but they might have had some sort of ad-blocking plugins...

Hi Adrian,

I hope you won't mind if I help you here. What all I am seeing in there is this error -

You are not authorized to view this page
You might not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied.

------------------------------------------------------------------
If you believe you should be able to view this directory or page, please try to contact the Web site by using any e-mail address or phone number that may be listed on the pagead2.googlesyndication.com home page.

You can click Search to look for information on the Internet.

HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden
Internet Explorer

Again, you are using two different google adsense accounts on the same page it seems.

hsvhsv, course I don't mind if you try to help. Thanks very much!

Re two different accounts... I don't think I have two different adsense accounts (but perhaps I signed up a while back, and forgot about it).

How would I be able to determine if you're correct, and what gives you the idea that there's two different accounts in the first place?

Adrian,

Google adsense has unique publisher id for each account.

This publisher id can be seen by anyone and is open to all if they want to check that out. We include this ID in the adsense code.

Now in your blog / website, I found these two publisher account ids, "pub-1971601831389773" & "pub-0710348633236630".

I am not sure if you own both of them, but this is how I could find out that there are two accounts associated with the ads on your page. (I think Google does not allow this so I thought I shall let you know)

Thanks,
hsvhsv

I do have one more question Adrian.

You can show Google adsense ads on homepage, how to do that? I can't show them on my homepage here http://www.orble.com/celebritygossip/

Hmm... I've got no idea why I have two different ones! I'm also not sure how I'd go about changing this...

Any ideas... anyone?

Thank you hsvhsv!

You can show Google adsense ads on homepage, how to do that? I can't show them on my homepage here http://www.orble.com/celebritygossip/

Well, I don't know how I do that!

I don't remember altering any of the default settings for my blog.

So I suspect it's simply because I have a domain blog, and you don't?

If you have access to change the google adsense code... you need to just change the pub-id.

I think you are correct about domain blog (we need to confirm though).. but i saw a blog

http://www.orble.com/victoria-beckham-lands-a-new-deal/

where i can see the google ads though it's not a domain blog..

Adrian -- I cannot see ads on your homepage either. It seems a bit strange -- I'll look into it. I have a feeling that we may have to appeal to Google on that one. You have talked about some "borderline" topics in the past and may have been banned by an overly enthusistic monkey at Google. It has nothing to do with their being two google accounts on your homepage -- one is for Orble and the other for you and this is allowed. All the Orble blogs have this.

hsvhsv -- There are google ads on your homepage in the form of links (the bar underneath the title). If you want for you need to change the format of your blog. Go to my.orble.com and click on the Modify link.

All i am worried about is the stats difference i get .

According to the stats of orble i get an average hits of 60 a day but when i check through adsense url tracking...i get just 4 or just one sometimes.

Its really difficult to track how much i am earning. Is there any solution

Comment by jon

Ashish -- 60 hits a day could be mostly search engines. You want to refer to the individual reader numbers.

With the AdSense stats -- does it show 4 clicks or views?

Jon.

@John: It shows 4 views .

Even if its thriugh search engines, it should show up in adsense whenever the url is accessed.

Not really -- unless they also execute the javascript which most don't. Even google does not do this for all pages it loads as far as I know, it would be a huge computational burden.

I dont agree on that..Its confusing.i can see all the url of the being tracked of my other blog which i am hosting then why not this?

In Adsense, There is an option whre i can add my blog url.Any add being displayed on that page containing my code of adsense gets tracked.Meaning If it has a hit of 20 It gets tracked with a count of 20 and if there is a click it shows there.

I am not talking about filters.I track them too though.

But when i tracked my oble blog url...its shows just 1 or 4 max which doesnt agree with the stats of orble which shows like i have 80 hits

Technically it should show me every time my orble url is accessed with my adsesne account in it wether be it through search engines or direct doesnt matter

No offenses but I want to understand it...its confuses me

Hi Ashish -- no problem with the questions.

To start with as I said before not all search engines hits are going to be recorded by AdSense. Most do not execute javascript code which they need to do in order to download the actaul ads from google and record a view in your AdSense account. If you have quite a few pages on your blog and a search engine spider (or two) decides to crawl your blog then you are going to record many hits which won't appear in your AdSense account.

How many individual readers are you getting for those 80 hits? If there is a big difference between indiviaul readers and hits it is a good indication of spider activity.

Secondly, only half of the real-person hits will be shown in your AdSense account (the other half will appear in ours). Whereas your Orble stats show all the activity for your blog.

Hope that helps.

Jon.
