Filmfare awards 2012: Ranbir and Vidya surprise wins

Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara bagged the maximum number of popular awards at the 57th Idea Filmfare awards held in Mumbai on January 29, 2012.
Vidya Balan won the best actress award for her bold performance in The Dirty Picture. Ranbir Kapoor bagged the best actor award for his film Rockstar. AR Rahman won the best music director award for Rockstar. He was honoured with the 2500th diamond-studded Filmfare trophy.
Many celebrities including Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia D'Souza performed at the award function. For the first time Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor were seen hosting the show together. Their awesome gags added more fun to the glam event.

Concerning Box office collections:

Agneepath Bumper Opening But Collections Fall Quickly

Agneepath got a huge bumper opening as it opened a day earlier on Republic Day and set a new record for first day with business close to 22 crore nett. The public reports of the film were not so good especially in the North so collections came down on day two but even so such a big fall was not expected so early in its run.
The four day weekend for the film is likely to finish under 60 crore nett. The film is a success thanks to the opening but will not be a blockbuster hit and likely to fare better in the Maharashtra belt.

Ghost managed to hang around in single screens in week two and will end up with around 7 crore nett business which is okay. BELOW AVERAGE
Players added around 2 crore nett in its third week and is set for a 30 crore nett finish. DISASTER

Agneepath Has Unprecedented Fall On Day Two

Agneepath has taken an unprecedented fall on its second day as it has collected around 11 crore nett as per early estimates on its second day which is a fall of 50% from day one. The two day figure of the film is around 33 crore nett and the four day weekend is looking at a 55-60 crore nett total. The Saturday figures from some circuits are below with Friday numbers in brackets.

The top directors at the box office for 2011 are listed below. The directors worth is proved from Monday onwards as it is the film collecting and not the hype and star power. The top directors have been ranked by the business there films did from Monday onwards. Films that had extended weekends have 25% of the weekend total added as hype and star cast is a major factor before Monday and too include Saturday or Sunday business will give an incorrect picture.

The above were not only the best directors of the year but their respective films were also probably the best of the year having the most appreciation from the public in India

Players Poor Opening Don 2 Very good Second Week

Players opened to a poor 35-40% opening and saw normal improvement in the evening rather than a big jump. the film will have to sho big growth over the weekend to have any chance at the box office

Don 2 had a strong second weekend as it collected 27.50 crore nett to take its total to 97.50 crore nett. The regional versions have contributed a further 3.35 crore nett. The film will show a drop in week three but multiplexes willcontinue to collect over the next few weeks. HIT

Mission Impossible 4; Ghost Protocol has closed on the 35 crore nett mark in three weeks in all languages.

Don 2 Takes Heavy Hit In Week Three

Don 2 fell heavily at the start of its third week as it collcted around 75 lakhs approx on its third Friday. The collections are 80-85% down from last Friday.

This was mainly due to the release of Players which had a huge release taking away a lot of the screen space but Don 2 is likely to show a huge jump on Saturday and Sunday and may take its weekend business to around 4 crore nett.

The lifetime business of the Hindi version is unlikely to go over 110 crore nett though the film is likely to be on a steady run from week 4 onwards.

Players Fails Badly At The Box Office

Players has got the year off to a very bad start as collections could not pick up on Saturday after a poor start. The first day collected around 4.60 crore nett and second day is in the same region. It could be 10-15 lakhs more or less when final collections come in but Players needed a 30-40% jump to even have a respectable weekend. The weekend is likely to be 15 crore nett at best.

My Name Is Khan Releases In Hong Kong

There is big news for all SRK fans in Hong Kong. Dharma Movies has released their Block Buster ‘My Name is Khan’ in Hong Kong.

My Name is Khan; one of the most awaited movies was released in India on February 12, 2010. It turned out to be a Blockbuster not only in India but also did extremely well in the overseas market, especially South Korea. Sources say that the movie was released in South Korea in eight cities across 200 theatres.

The movie went across to win awards for the best Director, Actor, story and Lyrics etc. at the 12th IIFA Awards. The highlight to the success of the film is probably today when the movie has opened to thousands of fans in Hong Kong.

Pardon me Filmfare but it is SRK or Salman Khan who should have bagged the best Actor Award!
