Favre's Trade - Fantasy Football Spin
August 7th 2008 19:29
Today Laveranues Coles and Jericho Cotchery did a happy dance along with the rest of the Jet's Nation - they finally have a relevant quarterback.
For fantasy football this could mean big things for several of the Jets offensive weapons. Laveranues Coles became a deep threat again. Favre still has a cannon for an arm and will be able to connect accurately with Coles down the field for some big gains. I would expect Mangini to exploit defenses with this connection often.
Jericho Cotchery will also benefit from Favre's presence. Though Cotchery will not burn you down the field, he does have good hands and is often the over-the-middle target in the passing game. When Favre's Packers needed a first down he could always find his most sure handed targets. You can count on Cotchery being that taret this year for the Jets.
Since the offensive line has made some improvements with the addition of Alan Faneca this off season and the development of D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Favre should have some time to find Coles and Cotchery.
The running game just improved as well. Being that the Jets have a relevant passing game and an offensive line this will allow Thomas Jones to become more of a factor in the weekly game plan. Jones is not a bad #2 option at RB this year. He should be able to gain 1,000 yards easily and a few more touchdowns than that single TD from last year.
You probably don't want to pick up any of these guys in the first 5 rounds of your draft or auction, but keep an eye on them. Each player, including Favre, will be great #2 guys at their position and could be part of your winning fantasy team.
