Fashion's new sisters on the block
July 15th 2008 00:27
Have you heard of the new raved about label Rodarte? It would be pretty hard to escape the attention of continual praise the label has reaped from Vogue publications, fashion websites and blogs. But does the clothing live up to the hype? A resounding YES on this front.
Rodarte is the collaboration of two American sisters, who have what many fashion critics are saying is a 'fairy tale story'. They have been snapped up by magazine editors and major buyers alike, and have managed to penetrate the elusive haute couture market. It is incredibly hard for any label to make a dent on the catwalks, let alone recieve such a warm, and anticipated entry into the fashion world.
So what's so good about Rodarte? Is it the meticulous detailing and easless form of their gowns? Or is that the label brought a sense of adventure, and a willingness to push on boundaries of what appears at times to be a repetitive drawl of perfectly primped dresses.
Rodarte's most recent collection saw the sister's take inspiration from Japanese Horror Movies (note the red killer slash lines that amazingly compliment the ethereal wispiness of the dress below.) Original eh? Not to mention the interweaving of knitting in some of their dresses that has jolted fashionista's to proclaim that 'knits are cool again'. Not bad for a couple of laid-back sisters.
