Fashion Rat - by Maddy 1

One of my friends and I were chatting about which celebs we would consider our style icons, which stars we see in magazines and think, yep they’ve got it spot on.

And because I just love making lists, I decided to make a list of my top 5. So here they are, in no particular order because I can’t choose.

1.Margherita Missoni: This girl has it all. Heir to top Italian fashion house, killer looks, all the designer clothes she could ever want and kick-arse style. Sure, she wears a lot of Missoni (for obvious reasons…) but she wears it well. With Missoni’s trade mark bright prints mixed with her own inventive and care-free style, Margherita never fades into the background. (Pictures courtesy of style.com)

If I were a rich girl...

I don't know about you, but I am a stone broke student.
Any money I have goes to rent, food and alcohol. My parents are great and help me out when I need textbooks or a laptop or something.

But they don't buy me designer clothes.

Which is completely fine. I mean, they're hardly living essentials.

So what I want to know, is how the hell can so many Uni students afford Louis bags, Dior earrings and Marc Jacobs shoes????
Where are they getting the money? These things cost thousands and thousands of dollars, unless they're getting fakes, and if so, I want in!!

You would not believe the death stares I give the girls who arrive to lectures, Fendi on one shoulder, hands in pockets of Tsubi jeans. Surely, they can't all be getting it from their parents? And they can't be earning enough themselves while still at Uni. It's such a mystery...It really bothers me.

I guess I just have to hold on to the hope that one day I'll be able to afford it....one day

Fashion.org.au

Ok, so I've been asked to join Fashion.org.au, so most of my fash-related posts will go there from now on.
For the time being I'm going to keep this blog around for my more bitchy thoughts on fashion, and other semi-related musings.

As promised, The New Romantics get their turn.

In the Spring 07 runways, there were many designers who had at least a piece or two inspired by this flower-happy trend, so, unlike my discussion of Futurism which was dominated by Balenciaga, I'm going to be talking about a range of designers from YSL, Chloe, Oscar de la Renta and Alexander McQueen (though I realise he's also mentioned in the Futurism section, he's my crossover dude, every genre needs one) and a bunch more. For more recent examples of what I'm talking about, look at Marc Jacobs' heavily floral-inspired work for Louis Vutton

Futurisim: To Infinity and Beyond?

March 15th 2007 14:58
So, as anyone who followed last year's Spring Ready To Wear (RTW) shows around the world will know, there seems to be a new fash-battle in the works: Futurism vs the New Romantics. I'm going to look at each of them individually, starting with Futurism.

When we talk Futurism, we're really talking about Balenciaga and to a lesser extent Alexander McQueen and Dolce. It's more minimalistic and androgynous than previous futurisim attempts, and although I like the overall silhouette (the skinny-leg pant, winged shoulers) the fabrics are foul. Seriously all that PVC is going to chafe horribly. And there are really only so many things you can do with black rubber
