Falling In Love From A Distance
November 5th 2007 17:43
She "met" him from a short distance during the television drama shooting in Vancouver. She could not remember exactly what year that was. He was busy talking to his co-workers and all of the people that passed by to watch the shooting. On the wet bench, at the pier, she was sitting there holding a cup of hot coffee observing. The weather was cold during that time of the year. The pier was a breathtaking sight scene. The sky filled with the oyster gray color. He looked brilliant among others. She was brought there by fate.
At first, she was enjoying the fresh cold air and the aroma of the fresh brewed coffee from the distant coffee shop. However, her attention had switched to a different angle – the sadness revealed in his eyes. Her mind was focusing on his eyes – the most beautiful sad eyes that she has ever seen. She knew nothing about him. She wondered what kind of emotions stayed within him. For no reason, she cared for his well-being.
He passed by her bench more than three times, without noticing that someone was studying every details of him. He was pacing back and forth; and her eyes followed him every step. She enjoyed watching every move he made. She was invisible to him. Her curiosity was growing so strong that she had asked around for his information. She secretly took one his picture for souvenir.
After that trip to Vancouver, she could not forget him; the stranger she just met for few hours at the pier. She memorized his face by heart. His facial feature was engraved so deeply into her mind. His sad eyes followed her whenever she went. She could barely stay away from his shadow. However, he never knew about her existence and he never knew that someone that he barely "met" from the distance has fallen in love with him.
For four years, she had done research on him. She has spent money, hard works, and time to find out more about him. She has gone through pain and sufferings. She cried with every single piece of his information that she obtained. She was ashamed but she finally found all his information, including his home address, home phone number, and even his cell phone number. For four years, watching him from the distance, she never had enough strength to come a little bit closer to him. Even if she had enough strength to come up to him and introduced herself to him, what was she supposed to say to him?
“Hi, I met you in Vancouver and I could not stop thinking about you.” Or
“Hi, I could not forget about your sad eyes and I accidentally fell in love with you.” Or
“Hi, I am so deeply in love with you even though I am a total stranger to you.”
She was terrified that if she has done or said something wrong, she might lose him forever. She rather stared at him from the distance, making sure that he was fine. Every night, before bedtime, she looked at his number listed on her cell phone for few minutes, and then she stopped herself from her strong temptation. She stopped herself from making a big mistake by calling him. She has tried so hard to prevent herself from invading his privacy. To him, she was and has always been a stranger. Nobody would like to be disturbed by a stranger.
Unfortunately, her love for him grew stronger everyday. Writing a diary is not efficient to control her frustration. One night, before bedtime, she picked up the phone and called his number just to listen to his voice. When he answered the phone, she hung up. She went back to bed feeling even more alone, and she cried herself to sleep. No one could share the sufferings with her.
Each night, after finishing writing her diary, she tore the pages from her diary and put them into one envelop with the return address. Once a week, she mailed those pages of her diaries as a letter to him. No matter how many times she opened her mailbox, he never replied to her letters. She has always remained a stranger or a deranged person to him.
After so many years, still, her love for him never died. She never gave up the only chance that one day in the future; fate might bring her to him. Sometimes, from the distance, she watched him taking a walk with someone next to him. Her eyes fixed on him until he disappeared into the building, then she would turn to around the corner and walked away. She still remained anonymous to him. She knew him well and cared so much about him and he never knew that she existed.
Love at a distance, who would believe situation like this would happen to this decent and innocent young woman. He would never believe someone could fall in love with him in this unusual way. Fate has brought him to her; but why left her with all the sufferings and pain? Love never works as a one-way street. It has to be mutual. I think that she has been wasting her time and she has been dreaming about someone that she could never have. I also think that she should say “Farewell to Vancouver” and “Farewell to her love at a distance.”
