Faith in Children
April 2nd 2007 06:07
I never understood why the people of the world held such little faith in children. What will happen when the finest military minds are on last legs and nations are on the eve of battle? When the time comes, will grown men finally swallow their pride, or will they shut out their only hope for national supremacy. The facts are simple, children are the future and instead of government officials fearing the loss of a job, we should open our minds to the possibility of a better way. Now the question arises; should we test our children for leadership ability and military aptitude? I vote yes; for a future of peace and a future of life.

I do have faith in children but not blind faith.
In my opinion no generation will be the same as the one that preceded it nor the one that follows.
C'est la vie!

When I think of military, I think of war. I'd like to see the world be able to nurture future leaders who can find alternatives to war and find peaceful solutions by intelligent means. I'm not naive, I know there has always (and probably always will be) war of some sort, but it'd be nice if we could encourage an alternative, wouldn't it?
Testing kids for leadership skills seems wise on one hand, but on the other hand, where does that leave choice? What if a child demonstrates remarkable leadership qualities, but would rather be an artist, or a veteranarian, or a mechanic? Just because someone has the right set of skills doesn't mean they'll be right for the job or that the job will be right for them. I'd hate to see us lose sight of choice for the sake of what we feel is necessity.
Just my opinions.

Also, peace only happens when the two groups of people have non-conflicting interests and something to gain. But when that criterion is not reached military intervention is needed to persuade the nations involved. Don’t be deceived the peace I wish for is not a short-lived bitter friendships between nations, but instead an iron clad mutual agreement between the people of earth. That is the peace I long for.
