Melbourne Central have notched up a win in their first match of the FAFL after being ranked as the number one team. To Gippsland's credit, they stuck with Central for three quarters, only trailing by 14 points at the last change. But the last quarter belonged to Melbourne, booting 4.4 to one behind to win by 41 points. Maddison Dalyell booted five goals in the win. Melbourne Central move forward to the Quarter Finals of the Pre-Season tournament.

Newcastle Settlers have recorded the first victory in the FAFL, defeating the Geelong Cats by five points at Simonds Stadium. Perhaps the most ironic detail of the match was the five goals by Lily Simonds, who seemed to be everywhere, kicking four of her goals in the opening quarter. Up the other end, highly touted Sara Soward booted six straight for the losers.

After booting a whopping ten goals to zip in the first quarter, it looked like it was going to be an obliteration by the Settlers, but the last hour and a half went to Geelong, booting twelve goals to three, only to fall short and run out of time. Both teams looked very good, and while Geelong is out of the Pre-Season comp, Newcastle move through to the Qualifying Finals next week.

Newcastle Settlers 10.1---12.2---12.3---13.5.83
Geelong Cats 0.4---4.4---7.6---12.6.78

Newcastle Goals: Simonds 5, Armit 3, Sowden 2, Stoney, Florey, Rowcroft.
Geelong Goals: Soward 6, Cracknell 2, Gleeson 2, McCarten, Solander.
Newcastle Best: Simonds, Armit, Edinburgh, Triggs, Parrell
Geelong Best: Soward, Gleeson, Cracknell, Girdlestone, Solander

Official Team Ratings

September 4th 2011 02:19
In the FAFL, each player has been given a rating between 10-90 in four key positions: attack, defense, ruck and midfield. Each team's points have been added up to see how many players they have in ratings between 80-90/70-79/60-69 and then from there, those rated in the 80-90 point bracket are worth 5 points, 70-79 are worth 3 points, and 60-69 are worth 1 point.

From there I gave each team a total rating so you could get an estimate of how good each team should roughly be, and here it is:

Melbourne Central = 215
Newcastle Settlers = 213
Gold Coast Suns = 212
Sydney Swans = 210
Port Adelaide Magpies = 200
Canberra Cougars = 194
Perth Panthers = 191
Brisbane Lions = 189
Tasmania Tigers = 188
Geelong Cats = 182
Adelaide Crows = 181
Fremantle Dockers = 181
Gippsland Power = 181
Peninsula Vikings = 172
Northern Dingoes = 164
Cairns Taipans = 157

So as you can see the top four will be close, whole there is a logjam in the middle, while the Vikings, Dingoes and Taipans appear to be the weakest. But anything can happen and we'll see how the season pans out!

Establishment of the FAFL

August 29th 2011 07:21
For years, women have wanted their own Aussie Rules League, and yet they are continually ignored due to the rough nature and the expected lower audience to watch them. So in the world of fantasy, I have created what I like to call the FAFL (Female Australian Rules League), I would have "Women's" instead of "Female" but that would make it the WAFL which we already have.

The league will start with 16 teams
