Learning Something Everyday - by Jessicca

You can learn from anything to everything every single day, if you put your heart to notice the little changes in life around you.

Fact: Word games

May 23rd 2007 07:44

Playing with words is a distinctly human activity. It lets us learn while having fun, and is a humbler and more approachable way to be creative than writing the Great American Novel. We make new sense or nonsense by playing with the basic elements of our language - noticing similarities between different words, finding double meanings in the same word, and using words as the raw material for innumerable games. Words are pulled to pieces and rearranged in anagrams and palindromes, or linked together in diagrams or patterns such as acrostics, crosswords, Scrabble, and word squares. Some games play with individual letters (as in chronograms and beheadments), their shape (concrete poetry), or sound (rebuses and tongue-twisters). Other games, such as charades and hangman, involve guessing.

Hi Tracy,

Great to see you around again. Well, last Sunday night me and my friends just tried scrabble. I thought I was loosing since most of my words are really short (and sweet). And I ended up wining the game by 1 point. hahahaha....

The next racing game for my mind will be Boggle. It's really thrilling as we only have about 5 minutes to come out as much word combinations as possible, without pointing at those alphabets and just writing down on a piece of papper. Trully heart racing as well. ^_^

Hi katyzzz,

It's so good to see you again. So sorry I wasn't visiting yours often...

Yes, indeed time is important and I am just learning to maximise my time and still have enough rest for each day. Unfortunately it is really hard to juggle sometimes as long as you don't plan ahead.

Hope to see you all often again. I will try to post more interesting facts in future.

Have a blessed day
Jessicca

Hi Tracy,

Well I am looking for a software scrabble game where I can just play by myself when I am free.

I also have another word game software that is called bookworm. It's something like between Boggle and scrabbel where all alphabets are availabel and you will just create words out of it and each letter has a point. Once you created the words it will be taken off and there will be other alphabets fall into place to fill up the entire square. You play until you can't form any words from the plat full of alphabets and that's when you call game over.

I found an online game of it and you can try it here:

I love Scrabulous! It keeps me from being too bored at work and it keeps my mind working too.

Hi W-Y-S!
(Sorry if I made a short form out without informing you. )

My friends love scrabble and well, after the games I realised there's still a lot to learn in English vocabulary!

Have a blessed day
