Fact: Harriet the Tortoise
January 8th 2007 12:00
Harriet the Tortoise is one of the world's oldest (recorded) living animals. DNA testing performed on the giant Galapagos tortoise suggested that she was born around 1830. She died in 2006 at the Australia Zoo at the ripe old of age of 176. It is believed that in 1835, Harriet belonged to Charles Darwin and was studied by him, leading to his theories of evolution and natural selection. Harriet's original name was Harry, as she was mistakenly thought to be a male for more than 100 years.

..she is georgeous, isn't she?
Quite regal and certainly she must be wise for she would really have learnt the lesson of not hurrying ... I believe humans live longer too if they can just follow her lead ... not always easy, is it?
*lol*
thanks for this delightful, lift to my day.

Yes, I can't resist tortoises too. When I was little I used to go to this chinese temple every year where I can feed the tortoises that were "abandon" there. Some of them are about 80 years old. Now I heard that area's environment is getting worse and most of the old tortoises has passed away.

How lovely thought it is indeed if she were able to speak something we can understand. How I hoped the same as you as I always love stories, especially my grandmother used to tell us a lot of her life as bed time stories whenever she has time to visit us.

Yes, indeed we have a lot to learn from here, but with the environment killing us everyday, even with her wisdom of simplicity of life and taking things slowly might not be able to help our current health situation, unless we stay in the woods and away from the concreat jungle.
Thank you all so much for dropping by!
