Fact: Compass
January 24th 2007 06:07
A compass is a navigational device containing a small, free-moving magnet called a needle. The needle is attracted to the earth's magnetism and swivels on a pivot until one end points to the earth's magnetic north pole.
From the knowledge of which way is north, of course, any other direction can be found. At first only north and south were marked on the dial, but later the other 30 principal points of direction were filled in. A cardinal point is one of the four principal compass points: north, south, east, and west.

You have livened this up by the use of such a well constructed picture, which indicates a compass as a fine work of art.
Although I think most people know about the compass a little refresher doesn't go astray.
