Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Review)
January 25th 2012 21:04
Grade: B / Rating: 4/5 Stars or 8/10
Director: Stephen Daldry
with Tom Hanks, Thomas Horn, and Sandra Bullock
PG-13 / 129 min / Drama
"A nine-year-old amateur inventor, Francophile, and pacifist searches New York City for the lock that matches a mysterious key left behind by his father, who died in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001." -- imdb.com
First, I have to say Tom and Sandra are in it and I love them both (the main reason I went to see the movie), however, they aren't in the movie much. It's much more focused on the boy, and the people her meets along the way.
Since that's out of the way, I quite liked the movie. It wasn't my favorite but it was good. The movie really made me want to meet Thomas Horn to see how much was acting and how much of his performance was just him, either way it worked.
For anyone worried that it'll be too sad, I just want to say it is sad but it's bearable. Personally I didn't cry, but I don't have too close of a connection with 9/11 or losing a parent. I feel that would make it worse, but the director did a great job of showing what's going wrong without it being too sad or graphic; I cannot remember a dead body.
Then my absolute favorite part is everything is connected. It seems like a lot of movies have loose ends, but this movie really went back and connected everything and left you still with a bit of mystery, which I thought was cool.
