Lesson 24 - Week 8

Lesson Date: 26th to 30th April Name of the teacher: Andrew
Grade: one Class: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 and 8
Words: ‘dog’, ‘cat’, ‘bird’, ‘fish’, ‘mouse’, ‘cow’, ‘duck’, ‘frog’, ‘horse’, ‘sheep’, ‘worm’
Sentences: ‘Do you have a pet?’, ‘Yes I do’, ‘No I don’t have’, ‘What is it?’, ‘It is a …’, ‘What animal do you have?’, ‘I have a …’ and ‘My pet is …’.
Games or Songs:
Song- ‘Spiders’ from my own VCD, song 16
Game: ‘slap the card race’
Activity: ‘Making a pet post card’

*Welcome: Have the students seated at their desk. Say “Good morning/ afternoon class”. Then ask as many students as possible in 3 minutes a free talk question (What do you have?), and await answer. Give them a high five if they say correct. 3 minutes
*Song: ‘Spiders’ 4 minutes
*Ask a few follow up questions in regards to the song. 1 minute
*Write team names on the board with the on-going tally. Award points to the teams during the lesson by winning a game, speaking more clearly than the other team, answering questions and getting books out first.
*Draw the discipline bomb in the top centre of the whiteboard. It should have five fuse sections and for bad behaviour they loose a fuse. If they lose all five in the lesson, they lose three points. The second discipline bomb in the lesson they loose 5 points.
*Target language one: (words)- review the old vocabulary learned in teaching other weeks ‘bird’, ‘cat’, ‘cow’, ‘dog’, ‘duck’, ‘mouse’, ‘fish’, ‘frog’, ‘horse’, ‘sheep’, ‘spider’ and ‘worm’. Drill twice and by using the ‘Go’ card which is this week is to stand up and spin around. 4 minutes
*Target language two: (sentences)- Using the elicit sentences ‘Do you have a pet?’, ‘Yes I do’ and ‘No I don’t have’. Drill by writing the sentences on the board and drilling the students chorally before asking each student individually to see whether or not they have a pet. 8 minutes
*Game: ‘Slap the card’- In their teams. Firstly place the flashcards up high enough on the board so the students can’t actually hit them and pull them down, and then draw columns down the board in between each flashcard. Teacher calls out a number, and mimes a pet. The student with that number needs to race to the front of the class and slap the card of the pet which was mimed. The first student to slap the card and say the pet gets one point, or do it like I ended up doing as I left my magnets at home, so as I was re-teaching the words for example ‘cat’, I wrote up on the board ‘a’ and say “ah”, then I wrote the ‘c’ and ‘t’ and said “cat” and underlined ‘a’. I did this for all of the key sounds for all of the vocabulary, and then I reminded the students of their teams and explained the rules before saying “What has the ‘ah’ sound, two’s (two’s is when the students in the second row need to stand up and race to the front and slap the bubble with the word with that sound)” 6 minutes
*Target language three: (sentences)- Using the elicit sentences ‘What animal do you have?’, ‘I have …’ and ‘My pet is …’. Again drill the students by writing the sentences on the board and then saying by yourself followed by students saying with you. Drill a couple times further chorally before asking each student individually. 8 minutes
*Activity/ making a pet post card: Give each student a post card size piece of paper, and ask them to draw their pet on it. As they are drawing their pet on the post card, go around to each student and ask them “Do you have a pet?” await for their response which should be “Yes I do” and then ask “What animal do you have?” and then await for their response again which should be “I have …, My pet is ..”.
*Current winners: Add up the points and announce who is the winning team today, give each of the winning team a sticker, and then announce who is currently the winning team for the week. 2 minutes
*End of lesson
