Intro
This movie is, obviously, loosely based on the character Sherlock Holmes from the stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It stars Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock, Jude Law as Dr. Watson, Mark Strong as the villain Lord Blackwood, and Rachel McAdams as Sherlock's love interest and nemesis Irene Adler. Directed by Guy Ritchie and is rated PG-13. Synopsis As the movie opens, Sherlock and Dr. Watson are interrupting a sacrificial killing by Lord Blackwood, with little help from the police and inspector Lestrade. This would have been the latest in a string of killings around London that were causing quite a lot of fear in town. After stopping Blackwood's murderous run, Sherlock falls into a deep depression. Lord Blackwood is tried and sentenced to hang, and Dr. Watson is called upon to declare Blackwood dead after the hanging. Blackwood's final request is to see Holmes alone before he dies. He tells Sherlock that there will be more killings and that Sherlock would not be able to stop them. Sherlock of course declares him mad and dismisses the ramblings. Shortly thereafter, Irene Adler comes to see Sherlock and wants to hire him for a case -- a missing person. However, shortly after he is hanged and buried, Lord Blackwood rises. He is seen walking about, and there is another man found in his tomb -- the same man Irene is looking for. As Sherlock is investigating the death of the "missing" man, he discovers a laboratory that the man was using to create some sort of mass-killing chemical device. He also finds out that Lord Blackwood was part of a secret society of "sorcerers" and is feared to be more powerful than anyone imagined. One of the members of this society is also a high-ranking official in the House of Lords, and, as we come to find out, in league with Blackwood. Their plan is to overthrow the government and rule the world with their "magical" powers. Aided by Dr. Watson and Irene, Sherlock successfully thwarts the plans to overthrow the government, exposes Blackwood as a fraud, and solves multiple cases at once. He is once again bested by Irene, however, and she distracts Holmes as a part of the chemical weapon is stolen by her employer -- Professor Moriarty. (I see this as an easily manipulated plan for future movies.) Critique This was a fun and exciting movie, action packed throughout. Guy Ritchie did a wonderful job directing. He employed incredibly effective camera angles to accentuate the action. Downey, Jr played an amazing Holmes -- everything from the brooding self-loathing to the quick-witted humor was right on point. Jude Law was a wonderful complement as Watson, Just the type of man you'd expect to be involved with Sherlock's adventures. I can't wait to see what they may do in future movies. Recommend? I definitely recommend this movie to most people. I would not recommend it for young children as it has a few scenes that may be frightening and a little realistic gore (not overwhelming, just some semi-disturbing images). It also has a few sexually suggestive elements that may not be suitable for some children. All-in-all a fun and interesting movie to watch. Overall Rating -- 4 1/4 flix. Flywheel is a Christian film, and is the first one produced by Sherwood Church in Albany, GA. This film was originally made to be a local outreach film only, but it was so popular that they put it on DVD for all to see. Due to the popularity, Sherwood has been able to make two more feature films -- Facing the Giants & Fireproof. Synopsis Flywheel is the story of a used-car salesman, Jay Austin, who learns that when you give God control of everything, He blesses you in ways you couldn't even imagine. As the story begins, Jay is purchasing a vintage car for himself. The car doesn't run, but he believes his mechanic can fix it up. When he brings the car back, the mechanic just shakes his head at the challenge ahead. Over time he does discover the problem -- the flywheel. Jay and his two sales associates have been in business for a while, but things have been a little rough as of late and Jay is behind on most of his payments, and the bank is calling. Jay is your "typical" used-car man and is a little shady in some of his deals. His associates are even in awe of how much he can get for cars -- even cars that have been previously wrecked and repaired. Jay even overcharges his own minister. Jay's wife is not supportive of his sales tactics, and believes God is not pleased with Jay's actions either. One evening, after a huge fight with his wife, Jay is flipping around TV and stumbles upon a sermon froHowm his minister that is being broadcast. Jay feels conviction about his actions and immediately realizes he needs to change his ways. He gives his life and his car lot to God for Him to control. This means he must completely revamp his business; a step that is not well-received by his associates because it means they will make less commission. But Jay stands his ground, and as a result, the two associates leave to work for another car lot. With time running out on his bank loans, Jay is at a loss as to what he can do to stay afloat, but he trusts God to do whatever He wants with the lot. Through a handful of providential circumstances, including an undercover investigation that exposes Jay as the only honest car dealer, God brings more business than Jay can handle. He even sells a record 32 cars in one day! This phenomenon brings enough money to pay the over-due amounts on the bank loans, and Jay is able to stay in business. However, Jay still feels remorse for his past dealings, and believes God would want him to repay everyone he cheated over the years. So Jay begins to add up what he has overcharged his customers while his wife figures out how much money they have left from the big sales day. When they finish, they discover that the two figures are exactly the same. Jay knows this is a sign he's doing the right thing, and sets off to return the money. As he does so, he realizes that not only is he clearing his conscience, he's blessing those he's coming in contact with, which blesses him in return. All in all, Jay and his family prosper more once Jay turns his life to God's control. Critique This movie was done with a very low budget, and you can tell. The acting is rather poor, but considering there's no professional actors, you can't expect much more. The story is easy to follow and portrays a great lesson. There's not a lot to say more than that. They did the best they could with what they had, and God blessed in the end. (By the way, their other two movies produced after this one were much, much better.) Recommend? I definitely recommend this movie for every family in America. The Christian lessons put forth were a wake-up call to myself as well as others that have watched it with me. Kids may not get the whole story or lessons on their own, but they should be able to understand with a little direction from their parents. Intro
I figured since I've seen this about 25 times with my two-year-old daughter, and since I've seen it advertised a lot lately, this would be a decent place to start. In case you don't know already, this is a Disney animated story based around the famous Never Land fairy Tinkerbell. She has a lot of fairy friends in Never Land, with her best friend being a "dust-keeper" fairy named Terrance. Synopsis

Intro
I know there's a lot of reviewers out there, and I realize that most people have intense and diverse opinions of their own when it comes to movies. I'm not here to argue with anybody, promote anybody, or spit out agenda-style reviews; I just want to put my semi-family-oriented perspective out there. Yes, I am a Christian reviewer, and, as such, I am very picky about the types of movies I watch. I usually tend toward PG-13 or lower rated movies (with exceptions such as Tombstone, Road to Perdition, and Saving Private Ryan) and will almost always stay away from crude humor or overtly sexual movies. I would love to have your suggestions on movies to watch/review (please keep in mind my previous statements). I try to see most popular new releases, but I don't have unlimited funds, especially with the prices of movie tickets these days (I will probably discuss that topic in future posts as well, so have your comments ready!). I am a member of Netflix, so I have access to older movies as well. Please bear with me as I am fairly new to blogging in general, and especially to writing reviews. As you will see on my posts, you will be able to purchase most if not all of the reviewed movies and affiliated merchandise from my Amazon Store linked at the bottom of each post.
