Sony to challenge Apple.

January 24th 2011 04:37
For months people have speculated that Sony would use some of its credible capacity to build its won tablet PC and join the tablet war. Hints that such a project is in the works have popped up time and time again, but some interesting new question have emerged lately. Why would you like a Sony tablet? Tech pundits are torn on the idea that Sony is joining the already crowded tablet market. Tech site eWeek ignited the blogosphere when it reported the company was planning to launch a tablet, aim to battle Apple’s iPad and other tablet vendors, the company is shooting for no.2 spot position just behind Apple. It was one of the most interesting stories right now in the tech world. But in this day it’s a kind of a challenging and that it’s fraught with risks. Those risky moves come always with hundred of millions of dollars in engineering costs and could put Sony’s reputation at great risk. Despite of its enormous size and global reach, Sony will face an uphill battle here, something brutal and fierce. What will a Sony tablet do in the market? In fact Sony is shooting for the no.2 spot behind industry leading Apple. Sony has yet to join that tablet market, but in a months or even year it nonetheless plans to become the no.2 player behind Apple or Samsung. It’s a surprise thing Sony has its sight on no.2 spot behind Apple. Sony admitted that it was keeping an eye on the tablet space and the company won’t just watch them and playing sitting duck, Sony will join the tablet market.

DOJ blocked Google's move.

January 18th 2011 09:30
Google has significantly accelerated its travel search plans as it battles online travel rivals like Expedia, Sabre Holdings, Kayak and Farelogix. Google signaled its intention to go after rival’s when it quietly revealed it had plans to acquire ITA Software, ITA Software’s helps airline, search engine and online travel companies organized flight information including times availability and prices. The acquisition will provide Google access to data to improve its air travel and fare search results and help Google dominate the online travel search industry. But the Mountain View based company got a very serious problem, it face fierce government opposition. The US Department of justice has blocked Google’s $700 million bid for ITA Software, crushing the search giant’s dream of online travel search dominance. This is good news for the Fairsearch.org group which wants the deal nixed. The Dept. of justice had reportedly preparing a possible lawsuit against Google. The US Dept. of Justice is working very hard to conduct a thorough investigation whether Google has violated laws. Tech analysts and DOJ think that Google’s proposed acquisition of ITA Software presents a serious threat to competition and consumers. Combining Google’s online muscle with ITA Software’s technology would position Google to undermine competition across the online travel search market, its synergy- a marriage between heaven and earth. Companies like Expedia, Farelogix, Kayak, and Sabre Holdings would fear Google move. For them if Google succeed or get ITA Software Google would dominate the entire online search industry, making it a travel search powerhouse. Google could cut off access to valuable ITA data or simply jack up fees to licenses the data. And worst of all kill their core businesses.

Companies like Expedia, Kayak, Sabre Holdings and Farelogix are not going to go down without a good fight; they are not playing sitting ducks here. So they decided to form a group, a coalition named Fairsearch.org to urge the US Department of Justice to stop Google’s plan to acquire ITA Software. The group’s effort finally paid off when US Dept. of Justice steps in to block Google’s acquisition move. Google had promised to honor all existing agreements and continue to work with these companies. For Google it will increase competition but for the Fairsearch group it’s about annihilation, this is about monopoly or unfair competition. They will kill those companies or simply crush the competition

Cisco launched an GoogleTV Killer.

January 15th 2011 12:22
At CES 2011, Cisco Systems finally unveiled a suite of hardware and software to blend TV and web content, and emerges as a potential GoogleTV rival. This could be Cisco’s answer to GoogleTV; after years of preparation and hard works, Cisco finally unveiled Videoscape. Videoscape will compete with GoogleTV and other solutions. Cisco Systems is building digital TV components it hopes to sell to service providers, Cisco want to challenge GoogleTV and other systems aiming for the convergence of web and TV content. The product represents a convergence of internet, cable TV and communications that are expected to spur competition. Cisco is betting hard on consumer space. Its already has taken a step into the consumer space with its acquisition of PureDigital, which created the Flip personal camera. Cisco officials have said they expect the use of video over the internet to grow rapidly over the next couple of years to the point where it will account for more than 90% of traffic over the web. Cisco reportedly is growing it capabilities, including an effort to bring its technology into the home. According to Cisco, Videoscape will help consumers search for access and manage internet video, cable TV, video conferencing and other features. At CES 2011 in Las Vegas, CEO Chambers took center stage to unveil the much anticipated Videoscape, a potential ” GoogleTV killer”. Chambers said Videoscape would help consumers watch any of their subscribed TV content from any devices, from TVs, tablets computers, to smart phones. The company thinks the future is going to be about reinventing the TV, something that rival like Google can’t do. This was the shot in the arm the entire tech sector have been waiting for. Cisco officials have been talking for years about bringing their technology into the home, a move that would bring it into much closer competition with likes of Google, Skype and solution vendors. The next major trend in unifying consumer platforms will likely be the TV. Despite challenges and past failures in this area, we expect Cisco to get the formula right and transition TVs into a new paradigm. And the timing is great, I’m sure the company will make a sleeper hit here.

Cisco is tech royalty. But it achieved success through innovation such as UCS, video communications and networking gear which have made the company an industry benchmark. With the recent launch of Videoscape, Cisco is proving once again that it’s a wildly successful company that enjoying a level of popularity that hasn’t been matched by any other firm in the industry. The company continues to show off the best looking product space without a single competitor coming close to matching it. The reason is just simple: Cisco I swilling to spend cash on the right technologies to make its product great and unique, witnessed its blockbuster acquisition of Tandberg for $3.4 billion, Cisco acquired Tandberg to grow its video communications business. I’m sure Videoscape will make a strong hit in the market. It’s a great product something that even Google couldn’t match. Cisco could do something that no other firm in the industry can do: it makes the consumers, enterprise customers and even the media expect the unexpected. It doesn’t simply follow a roadmap that so many other companies in the industry follow, it always come up with new ideas for new products that the market hasn’t not seen. This could be Google’s worst nightmare. Google should be scared because Cisco is big and with a pretty good reputation

Should Google Buy Twitter?

October 8th 2010 04:39
The rumor that Google would soon buy Twitter to fight Facebook is one of the oldest running tales told by gossips who claim to have secret knowledge of the ambitious plan. Across the tech world analysts and pundits are torn on whether Google should buy twitter to compete with Facebook in the social media market. Twitter is one of the fastest rising dot com in history next to Facebook. It has created a strong mainstream buzz. For the past few years we have seen lots of changes in Twitter, the company is awesome, its users’ growth is impressive. It has now more than 145 million registered users, with mobile users jumping 62% since April after Twitter began offering its own mobile applications for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android based phones. With 145 users on board, it got strong revenue potential. And its going mainstream, the company stands to be the next advertising cash cow. Twitter already disrupts everything in the web including Google and Facebook. The disruption make it’s a potential tech target for Google. It could next to Google’s shopping list.

We have heard it many times, that every major players in the web like Google, Microsoft, or Yahoo, wants to build the next great platform, what’s new here is that it’s possible for any of them to succeed. Apple, Google, Facebook, and Microsoft all want to build a web empire. In many ways these companies are technology’s standard bearer, though their guiding philosophies differ. Google advocates an Open web and tend to push for open standards and alliances among developers. No company on Earth has done a better job of aligning its business plan with the web, earning Google its massive $200B market cap. Its project are built to be hacked, making it favorite of third party developers, it has a billion dollar war chest giving the company plenty of room to experiments. With $24 billion plus a year in advertising revenue, you would say Google is just doing fine. But the reality is Google got tough competition, so tough that the company’s core business was threatened. The company has been experiencing disruption for the first time. That threat is Facebook. Zuckerberg’s brainchild has taken the web by storm, it was leading a once in a century revolution. Users’ growth remains impressive, with sign of slowing down. Since September 2006, when Zuckerberg opened Facebook to nonstudents, that was in Harvard. The site has grown 12-fold, making it one of the fastest rising dotcom in history. Facebook has garnered more than 500 million plus users in just 6 years! Visitors tripled after Facebook expanded internationally, and they continue to spend more time on the site. Last August the social network surpassed Google in total minutes users spent on the website. This makes Facebook a serious threat to Google’s online business. Google, which is twice as old as Facebook, (Google is just 12 years old) has more than 1 billion searchers, but these users come to its search engine for a quick information fix unlike Facebook, with all its content sharing (FarmVille, Ninja Saga, Mafia Wars) and communication tools, is sticky, that low barrier to entry and stickiness make Facebook a tantalizing proposition for social media advertisers. And this sound trouble for Google. Facebook is about to steal the spotlight away from Google. Adding to this threat is that Facebook is fast becoming accessible from any devices, anywhere, anytime, it’s everywhere
