Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less (LINK)

June 13th 2008 01:08
We are paying high prices now for the incompetence congress has shown in the past. I don’t want $20 per gallon gas and unless you are being bribed by a foreign government, you shouldn’t either. India and China will get the oil we have off the coast of Florida via slant drilling if we don’t harvest it first. So far congress has been brilliant at making decisions that put our national security at risk, enrich oil tyrants and dictators, and give away our oil for free to any foreign government that wishes to take it via methods like slant drilling. I realize that it would be completely out of character for the parliment of whores of which our government is composed to stop taking bribes from foreign countries and do something in the national interest. But just this once, why don’t you try stimulating our economy and solving all our future energy problems by drilling for oil off our coasts and in ANWAR? Clear the legislative and regulatory path for new nuclear power plants, new clean coal burning plants, and new natural gas burning plants. God help us all that we have to depend on are people who act like traitors to our nation, namely Congress. If you could stop worshipping polar bears and hugging trees or tundra just for a second, we could use the help. Afterwards you do this you can go back to letting our nation be invaded by 20 million foreigners and driving our wages down, leaving our ports and borders vulnerable, or whatever else you were doing.

Cheap Oil!

May 10th 2008 17:59
We could probably have cheap oil, if the environmentalists would let us drill off our coast and in Alaska, but they won’t so there is no more cheap oil.

So, in the mean time, what else can we do? Well, why not forgo lotto tickets for a year or even three years. Save up all those dollars and invest in an alternative energy startup. Let's face it, you were going to loose all that money you used to buy lottery tickets anyway. So the fact that your alternative energy startup is very likely to fail and take all your lottery ticket money with it is hardly a great loss. On the other hand, you get to take discretionary cash and push forward something that might give the US freedom from foreign oil.

Dick Cheney and George Bush will just take your tax dollars and make more oil wars. That way Dick Cheney's old corporate buddies will get richer and George Bush's old oil buddies will get richer. If you are going to change the equation you have to channel money in a direction that Bush and Cheney can't touch and the environmentalist can’t mess with.
In addition to your lottery money you could invest other discretionary money. Give up cigarettes and invest that money. Stop drinking those expensive lattes and drink coffee at home instead. Invest that money in an alternative energy start up company.
For you providers of every day luxury items, I have you covered too. You can launch a pre-emptive strike against my idea. Tell your customers they can still keep consuming your product guilt free because you got 'em covered. You are moving against me in a two pronged assault. On the one hand you are seeking out partners for the goods and services you consume who use only domestic sources of energy. On the other hand you are personally investing in alternative sources of energy which can be used in your business. Your buildings are powered by solar cells. Your corporate vehicles are powered off cooking oil. You know the drill.

Private individuals and companies can do things on a voluntary basis. Government can mandate what it does. I think government mandates are best used on the government itself and should rarely be used on individuals. The government end of things would mirror the action that the luxury providers can take. All government from the local to the federal level should be mandated to only buy US made goods—including energy. All government buildings and vehicles must be powered by domestic sources of fuel only. This is a national security and economic security issue. Imagine the federal government doing something in the national interest just this once. It would sure beat what’s going on now. Watching George Bush kowtow to the Saudis for cheaper oil is nauseating. Last time I checked, 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9-11 where Saudis. Osama Bin Laden is a Saudi. Many of the suicide bombers in Iraq were Saudi. I think we have had enough of Saudi exports. If only we could get the environmentalists to let us drill cheap oil off our coasts and in Alaska. Maybe if we beg…

Going Green

May 4th 2008 16:12
Local, city, county, state and the federal governments should be first to "go green." Politicians should not be elected to public office unless they agree to convert every government building and vehicle to renewable energy. There are at least three reasons why this should be so.

When all levels of government are taken into account, they control 40% of the economy. With that kind of economic incentive anyone who wants to sell to the government will hasten to meet the demands of its largest single buyer. Government will no longer have to pass laws to enforce cafe standards for instance. Rather the Government will simply tell auto companies, we want to replace our fleet of vehicles but will not buy anything that does get at least 50 mpg if it is gasoline based, or it must be a hybrid, or it must be fueled with renewable fuels.

Another reason Government should go green first is national security. Part of every oil dollar paid for Middle Eastern oil goes directly into the pocket of terrorists. If we convert to renewable fuels that we control, we defund terrorism and protect ourselves simultaneously.

Yet another reason to heed Al Gore’s clarion call on global warming is economic security. OPEC can not ruin our economy if we convert to renewable fuels that we control.

And finally, suppose Gore is right? When anyone hypes anything as much as AL Gore hypes global warming, I have my doubts. But I can’t see what is harmed by going green so why not? The military is doing some research on alternative and renewable energy. Whoever is the next president of the United States should institute a “Go Green or Go Home” policy for the military. Those who come up with energy saving devices or methods as well as those who implement alternative or renewable fuels should rise quickly through the ranks. Those who don’t should be encouraged to seek employment elsewhere. As resourceful as marines are, for instance, I would bet they could make surprising advances in fueling everything from jeeps to an entire base through alternative means if left to their own devices. The military has through it’s contractors developed the most effective weapons in the world. If this same level of effort is turned toward greening the military we will be a safer, more secure, and more independent nation. We will create new jobs and industries and the air and water will get cleaner as a benefit.

Energy Shocked

May 4th 2008 15:51
We marvel that a hundred years ago some scientists thought that a man could not survive traveling over 25 miles an hour. I believe that people of the future will marvel that we wasted billions of dollars and dozens of years on ideas such as Earth Day and Global warming when the solution to all our energy and pollution problems was within easy grasp. Our real problems are political, regulatory and legislative. If government clears the way, American can stop paying tyrants, terrorists and dictators for oil. Once that oil money vanishes, all the world's trouble makers dry up and blow away. We have all the energy we need now in the form of our own nuclear power, oil, coal, and natural gas. If we fund research into solar and even more exotic forms of alternative energy the future will be secure as well. Keeping the cash at home will make us economically secure. Not turning corn into ethanol will get the world fed again. Getting rid of our addiction to foreign oil stops all oil wars. Few things are more wasteful, expensive, or kill more people needlessly than oil wars.
