Last night, the crime show The Inside finally premiered on channel 7. It was late, 11:00pm, but hey, at least it was on at all.
Tim Minear, who is probably best known for his work on Angel, helmed this short-lived TV series, axed by FOX after only 13 episodes. It's very similiar to Angel, with the sinful, nighttime landscape of Los Angeles at the background, the stylistic camera work, the same sharp, witty dialogue, and dark, graphic themes. It also reminded me of the Saw films, and Silence of the Lambs. It stars two actors who have been on Tim Minear shows in the past - Adam Baldwin from Firefly and Angel, and Katie Finneran from Wonderfalls.
Rebecca Locke (played by Rachel Nichols), a rookie FBI agent, moves to L.A. to join the city's Violent Crimes Unit, after a serial killer appears to have murdered one of their team. She has a gift, an ability to understand and track down serial killers, and it is soon uncovered that she herself is the victim of a serial killer, kidnapped when she was 10 years old.
Judging from the pilot episode, the characters seem to be extremely likable, the darkness is compelling and genuinely scary at times, the score is fantastically remiscent of Angel with its haunting violin and edgy rock track, and the writing is very very good. Definitely worth checking out. It airs on channel 7 at 11:00pm Sunday night. Let's hope it stays there long enough to finish the short season.

So in trolling the TV for something interesting to watch the other night I stumbled on Black Books on the ABC. Bernard Black is the owner of a bookstore called Black Books, where the last thing they seem to do is actually sell books. He's bitter and moody and hates his customers. In this episode, they get a security system installed, only to lock Black out and his other worker Manny inside. Manny decides to seek out a survival handbook, and sets himself up with a bottle of liquid (booze), some flies to cook over the open fire, and a singalong to keep up his spirits.
On Tuesday night I was watching the Melbourne Comedy Gala on in place of Rove Live, only to discover the same actor Dylan Moran from Black Books doing a stand-up routine.
I recommend giving this show a look - it's pretty hilarious, in that quirky, dry British style of humour. Very remiscent of Extras. Look for it at 10:00 Monday nights on ABC.

Jan informs Michael that the branch is closing, spurring him to head to New York with Dwight in toe to save the office and everyone's jobs. Everyone starts to plan their futures without Dunder Mifflin - and some are happier than others. Meanwhile, Jim is told he will be promoted to second in command at the new merged Stamford branch, until his boss admits he was offered another position and took it. Jan gets pissy and has to make some calls, and reveals that the Stamford branch will be forced to close instead, taking Jim back to Scranton and saving the office.
Hehe. GREAT episode. One of the best so far this season. An extended version is available on the NBC website. Jim was hilarious sending Dwight faxes from his future self - still messing with him from the other office. Dwight and Michael practicing what they were going to say to the board member was so funny - especially when Michael told Dwight to act more intimidated. And Jim and Pam realising they were going to have the reunion we've all been waiting for brought a serious touch to the episode, making next week an episode I am personally DYING to see. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Stamford characters mix with the Scranton ones, especially Andy (who threw an impressive, hilarious tantrum when he found out their office was the one closing), who has become a terrific addition to the cast and one of my new favourite characters. Plus seeing the look on Dwight's face when he realises Jim is now his superior will be awesome, I'm sure.

Veronica Mars was quite a drama fest this week.
Veronica discovers one of the Hearst rape victims faked her rape, causing both the girl, and the head of the paper, who was forced to step down from her post, to vow revenge. If that wasn't enough, Veronica's still making plenty of enemies in class when she is the only student in her criminology class to recieve an A, and is then accused of plagiarism. She finally discovers the jealous TA framed her, in an effort to make her see that their criminology professor isn't the perfect heroic figure everyone thinks he is. She discovers this all right, busting him in a hotel room with the Dean's wife

There are a lot of shows on TV right now that have gone a bit stale in their premise, especially following the new trend of serialised television like Lost, Prison Break and The Nine. What TV shows do you think have gone past their expiration date? And what shows do you think will run out of juice within the next season or so?

So South Park went there, as South Park do. And Australia is naturally upset about it. What do we think? Too soon? They shouldn't have touched it at all? Or is it an overreaction?
SBS has yet to air it, but this is the scene in question

This episode felt waaaay more on track than last week did. More in tune with the dark angsty stuff this show is known for.
The fraternity accused of the serial rapes occurring on campus come to Veronica for help to clear their name, and this request comes in the form of Dick (sparking the most hilarious scene by far in the episode.) I love Ryan Hanson and Kristen Bell when they have their mini snark fests. Go work your little pixy spy magic and fix this
