Commercials

"The Supreme Court defined pornography as something with no artistic merit that causes sexual feelings. Sounds to me like every Fucking commercial I've ever seen on TV" -Bill Hicks
When I watch TV I see and hear a lot of weird shit. For example, beer commercials always seem to show give the impression that somewhere out there there is a bar or a park where everyone is cool and attractive. The women are ordering brewskies and doing all the things that you wanna do. Watching football and cheering like they actually care what happens!
Then there's the McDonald's commercials. A bunch of ethno-neutral hipsters piled into a Chevelle or a nice non-threatening ethnic family having real honest family moments! What you may miss when watching these fantasies is the fact that you hardly ever see anyone actually consuming the products. McDonalds has a commercial where in seductive, flirty voices a couple talks about an egg sandwich!
But what amazes me is how many people fall for that crap. I have actually been to bars where people seem to be actively trying to recreate the impossibly unreal situations. Like the commercial somehow gets in their head and they believe that if they drink a Bud Light a bunch of super models are gonna come over and hang out. The good thing is that drunk and in a dark bar everyone seems attractive.
Commercials are cons. The worst ones are from Wal-Mart. They try to appeal to the family values consumer while selling a lifestyle that does more to keep people apart than together. They have one that has a mom's voice talking about how much money the family saved on stuff while showing a family all in different rooms with earphones doing everything but interacting. Then there's what they do to actual families with their non-union policies and their low wages. And their health care costs get passed on to tax payers when they end up the ER. I really hate Wal-Mart.
