Life without Internet

December 15th 2008 07:26
I had a moment of realisation and pure terror over the past few days....life without internet!

My provider (who shall remain nameless although should be shown for the shameful people that they are) decided on Friday afternoonish to CUT OFF my internet. So naturally I thought...'Uh oh, I didn't pay my bill". So naturally I went and checked...and yep surely as always thanks to direct debiting, I was on-track with my payments. SO WHY THE CUT OFF?

After several minutes on hold...(23 to be exact).....I got put through to someone overseas (india?) and was told that my contract has been cancelled due to breach of contract. WHAT THE? Apparently I haven't been paying my bill. Ah so WHY is money coming out of my account each month and in the name of *******?

So after another 15 minutes trying to tell her that I HAVE been making payments, she tells me that she will have a manager call me back....

A day later no call.

So I call back. Another 40 minutes of my life wasted with no conclusion. Another promised call back.

A day later (sunday)...no call.

SO I call back. No apologies, nothing!!! "It seems that your payments haven't been processed correctly and therefore the contract was cancelled. Why did I know they are lying to me:

1. I have been with them for over a year. Wouldn't they have cancelled me by now?

2. Shouldn't I get at least a phone call or email or SOMETHING telling me that my payments are overdue?

3. MY PAYMENTS WERE PROCESSED VIA MY END!!!!

ANYWAY: 24 hours later...my connection was turned back on....

SO this equals a stressed out me.

So to all those I haven't responded to, to the 186 emails in my inbox, Im sorry for the delayed reply (not the 30 or so junk ones I have received amongst them). But clearly it was not my fault.

THIS did make me think though. We rely so heavily on this technology that it is actually a little bit scary. I felt like a crazed lunatic, as though I didn't have food or water or something VITAL!!!

That's enough out of me.

When A Hobby...Gets Frightening!

December 10th 2008 05:26
First and foremost I will start this post with an update on my word count. Nothing to write home about but its something I guess:

26,000

Moving on.

I have decided already what my New Years Resolutions will be. Yep there are two. Although I am not going to share them with you just yet....best to wait till New Years right?

I will give clues as to what they might be in my upcoming December posts. Can you guess?

So, if I had stuck to my original plan and didn't listen to that stupid little writer in my head, I would be up to at LEAST 28,000 words. Why am I not? Simply because the time that should have been spent on my novel, was spent on two short stories. I haven't written a short story since I was in highschool. So for six years I have done nothing but attempt novels. When I say attempt I do mean attempt...I have about six startings of novels sitting on my desk, waiting to be brought past the chapter 3 marker.

Anyway. My thoughts are to leave them alone for a while, let them collect a little bit of dust while I continue on with my novel along with any other short story ideas that pop into my head and then go back to them and polish them up and then, bringing the topic back to my title, might try the very scary attempt at getting them published...EEK!!!

Enough out of me,
Edie

P.S - I just wanted to say thanks to all of you, any of you that read my blog...and more so those who comment and have sent emails. I like to know Im not alone and love that I can learn from you.

I have become a sponge, any book, any conversation, any fleeting moment I take it all in and hold onto it, although now my head is getting very heavy and starting to spill out everywhere. Need one of those Memory keepers like Dumbledore has...oh dear now I've gone and done it...I have mentioned Harry Potter....

that really is enough out of me.

Blog Makeover

December 5th 2008 04:23
So I have and still am in the process of giving my site a little makeover. I found the pattern I had before WAY too overkill. I'm trialing the black at the moment and see how I go.

I am also going to go back through all my posts and fix them up. I noticed a few mistakes and such and lets face it...how annoying is it to read a blog with spelling mistakes...I know I hate it!

ADDITIONALLY: I have deleted my 'Currently Reading' Spotlight Post. Why I hear you ask? Simply because I found out about this dooby-wackey thing that you add to the top of each post and that's where I shall state which book I am reading at that time.

An update on Reintegrate

I am currently on 24,680 words. Disgusting isn't it. I was going to write last night although I have been absolutely buggered from work and needed to veg out in front of the t/v instead. Pathetic but true.

I have also thought of another great story that has been bubbling in my head since my rive home last night. Must remember to write it down. Must remember to write it down. Yes I wrote that twice on purpose. Usually, it helps me to remember when I say/write things twice. Certainly not fool-proof though.

Anyway enough out of me.

Keep Writing Everyone! Because it won't write itself!

WHERE IN THE WORLD HAS MY INSPIRATION AND DRIVE GONE???

I am completely void of it at the moment. I had the whole weekend. Perfect rainy writing mood and what did I do? I wrote for maybe an hour while waiting for the road side assistance to come and fix my car whose battery decided to die overnight....which may or may not have had anything to do with a certain someone leaving the lights on

I was excited because for the first time ever.. my novel has a tick from all your points...usually I have to re-think and go back and change something.

AGGHHH!! That would be my worst nightmare...

Agreed with your hand issues: I think my writing would be clearer if I used a pencil on my nose than that of my left hand (right-hander here).

Im very impressed that it hasn't let you make the excuse "well I can't write at the moment" which is what I would probably do.

LOL

Dianna: Just shows that's its a great site right?

Have to say that I love it a lot more than the Nano site. The Forums chat Your Page etc..it all just meshes well.

Moonglow: Hope to see you there

Hey Sonya,

I did the exact same thing!! ALTHOUGH...be aware (as I wasn't) that it doesn't have a Firewire output. BOOO!! So if you have a use/need for firewire, then the new Mac is no good for you.

Good Luck with the new job prospect and of course with Nano
