Life without Internet
December 15th 2008 07:26
I had a moment of realisation and pure terror over the past few days....life without internet!
My provider (who shall remain nameless although should be shown for the shameful people that they are) decided on Friday afternoonish to CUT OFF my internet. So naturally I thought...'Uh oh, I didn't pay my bill". So naturally I went and checked...and yep surely as always thanks to direct debiting, I was on-track with my payments. SO WHY THE CUT OFF?
After several minutes on hold...(23 to be exact).....I got put through to someone overseas (india?) and was told that my contract has been cancelled due to breach of contract. WHAT THE? Apparently I haven't been paying my bill. Ah so WHY is money coming out of my account each month and in the name of *******?
So after another 15 minutes trying to tell her that I HAVE been making payments, she tells me that she will have a manager call me back....
A day later no call.
So I call back. Another 40 minutes of my life wasted with no conclusion. Another promised call back.
A day later (sunday)...no call.
SO I call back. No apologies, nothing!!! "It seems that your payments haven't been processed correctly and therefore the contract was cancelled. Why did I know they are lying to me:
1. I have been with them for over a year. Wouldn't they have cancelled me by now?
2. Shouldn't I get at least a phone call or email or SOMETHING telling me that my payments are overdue?
3. MY PAYMENTS WERE PROCESSED VIA MY END!!!!
ANYWAY: 24 hours later...my connection was turned back on....
SO this equals a stressed out me.
So to all those I haven't responded to, to the 186 emails in my inbox, Im sorry for the delayed reply (not the 30 or so junk ones I have received amongst them). But clearly it was not my fault.
THIS did make me think though. We rely so heavily on this technology that it is actually a little bit scary. I felt like a crazed lunatic, as though I didn't have food or water or something VITAL!!!
That's enough out of me.

Once Upon A Writer
I was excited because for the first time ever.. my novel has a tick from all your points...usually I have to re-think and go back and change something.
