Earth Hour 2008 -- are you taking part?
WHAT: Earth Hour 2008
WHEN: March 29, 2008
8pm - 9pm (your time)
WHY: Promote Global Warming Awareness... Do our part
HOW: Lights off for one hour
Since Orble is based in Australia, and Earth Hour actually started in Sydney Australia -- how many of us in this blogging community are taking part on this activity?
Since its debut last year at Sydney, some even criticizing it, Earth Hour has become worldwide and our part of Asia has decided to join. It's not going to be Nationwide here but several cities have announced full participation on the event. Some still haven't fully committed but I'm sure some who are aware will participate in their own ways.
There were also a list of corporations who will participate
- Starbucks coffe shops will do a 50% lights off nationwide for the whole hour.
- Several big companies like Coca Cola committed to turning off their billboards for the hour.
- The biggest mall in the metro will also do a 50% lights off, especially on the most lighted area of their malls.
Since this falls on a saturday and at 8pm where most people are unwinding from a long week, not all the establishments could commit.
Regardless of how much or how little lights we'll be turning off, it'll still help us and our world a lot. We come from a nation where metro-wide blackouts are not new, even used to be scheduled. We are exerting a lot of effort to show the world that we care about this planet we live in.
So... IN YOUR PART OF THE WORLD, ARE YOU TAKING PART?
