Dreamer's Dance - October 2006

Sorry about that folks!

I know, not the best way to get things moving around here -- to post a couple of thoroughly entertaining posts, and then disappear. Unfortunately, October got in the way of life -- or perhaps life got in the way of October. I'm not really clear on the order of things. All I do know is that I looked up yesterday and took my first full breath of fresh air in longer than I care to count, and realized that my next paycheck had been deposited

In all of the traumas and tragedies associated with my nearly-completed divorce, I thought I had covered all of my "to worry about" bases. I'd composed the "I knew you were cheating" letters to both him and her. I'd planned out the custody arrangement should something ever happen to me. I'd located all of the take-out food menus to compensate for my woeful lack of kitchen skills. I never even thought about the return to high school first date phobia.

It happened early last week. The timing and composition is enough to singlehandedly prove the existance of some higher force guiding our lives -- even if only for the purpose of humor

Packing Heat in History?

A rundown of the news I watched this morning:

1) North Korea is threatening to blow up a nuclear Bomb. Great. Wonderful. Exactly what I want to be thinking about. Kim Jong Il -- the same man who allows millions of his own people to starve to death in the streets while asserting "hunger? what hunger? We don't have hunger! It's a western ploy!!' now has the power to push a button and blow things up. Great. I have a toddler at home -- it's never a good idea to let children play with big weapons

My daughter is 3. This year, for the only time in our lives, I am exactly 10 times as old as she is. (Yup, you can do the math yourself! LOL! ) And yet for one moment on Thursday, as I flew down the high way, I was a preschooler myself.

We'd visited the zoo. For the first 3 1/2 hours she did great -- sweet, fascinated, focused, a dream child. And then, while I was busy oohing and ahhing at an elephant throwing wood around, or perhaps a rhino taking a much needed bath, someone flipped her switch. Suddenly I was accompanying EvilChild on her trip to terrorize the world

Those who drive in the right lane should be forced to turn if and when they reach a red light. If they don't, their driver's licenses should be suspended for a minimum of 6 months. No, I'm not overreacting.

I am convinced that God somehow let a little bit of Heaven slip in when he was creating Texas, and days like today are proof. Days when you look around and realize that there is no plausible way to finish the statement "if only..." Not "if only it was 5 degrees warmer/cooler" because the temperature is perfect. Not "if only there were"...no wait a minute, there aren't any clouds in the crystal blue sky. The perfect breeze, the perfect green to the trees and grass, the perfect amount of brightness from the sunshine -- it is a momentary glimpse at perfection. Maybe that's why He (God) had to make summer around here so close to hell -- to balance it all out...
