The Story You're About to Hear is True... (LINK)

That phrase is used at the start of each episode of Dragnet. Of course, most of the times, the stories are very hard to track down. But thanks to an alert listener, Stephen, we found the origin of one of these stories. An Episode of Dragnet originally aired December 15, 1949 (and on our show July 14 of this year) featured a killer/thief who entered through the Garbage chute to commit his crimes. At the end of the episode it's mentioned that after a 5 year wait including fight to the Supreme Court, the Killer was put to death the previous week..

A reader pointed me to a case of a killer who entered through a garbage to chute to commit his crimes and after a five year wait was executed after an appeal to the Supreme Court. Admiral Adamson was executed on December 9th, 6 days before the Dragnet episode aired. I think we have a winner
