The Fray was put together in 2002; and played locally in Denver, Colorado for a few years before really taking off big. Many of you may be familiar with their debut album that came out in 2005: How To Save A Life. Several TV show soundtracks used the title track from the album as well as Over My Head (Cable Car) during 2005-6; and subsequently both songs made it into the top ten on the Billboard charts. The band isn't exactly a "hard rockin" combo, but more of a mellow piano-rock band.....think Billy Joel meets The Dave Matthews Band. If you would like to check out the band's official website, click HERE.
The lead singer of The Fray, Isaac Slade, is also the bands piano player. His piano-bar style is reminiscent of early Billy Joel......but Slade's mellow vocals often times reminded me of The Dave Matthews Band. Not a bad combination, really. The music is soulful, in a "ballad" sort of way. Like I said, it's not music to bang your head or pump iron to.....but more for chillin' out, or even getting frisky on the sofa.....
The bands self-titled second album, The Fray, was released on February 3, 2009. It was an immediate hit, making it to the Billboard Top 100 charts within a week. The first two singles off the album have gotten alot of airplay: You Found Me and Never Say Never. Both songs also found their way into movie and TV soundtracks...and consequently the Billboard charts too. (these guys must have a helluva promoter, or either Slade must have a relative at one of the studios!)
You Found Me is almost a Christian song, and has actually been promoted on alot of Christian music sites. In it, Slade asks God what took Him so long to find him in his time of need. Personally, I find the lyrics kind of "whiny"......but the song does have a catchy tune and chorus. Never Say Never is sort of a love song/ballad. I liked this song the very first time I heard it; and it now currently resides on my iPod in the "Music to F**k to" folder. Heehee!!! Below are the YouTube videos of the songs; first is You Found Me, then below it is Never Say Never. Enjoy!!!!!....
This is another post in the Free Music Related Wallpaper Downloads and Song Lyrics category. As you can tell by my last post, I'm not a Black Eyed Peas fan. So, I'm going to post links to free wallpaper downloads of Stacy Ferguson, AKA the hot sexy Fergie......and not of The Black Eyed Peas. However, I will post the lyrics of the two "hit" songs I reviewed yesterday, just so everyone can see the lyrical genius for themselves. (that was my sarcasm hard at work) If you want a free wallpaper download of the above sexy pic of Fergie, click HERE.

The END (short for Energy Never Dies), is the fifth studio album by The Black Eyed Peas; and was released on June 9th. I'm not a big fan of The Black Eyed Peas....they're a little too "hip-hop-ish" for my taste. Personally, I think the best thing they've got going for them is Stacy Ferguson; also known as the hot n' sexy Fergie. She definately falls into our Sexy Ladies of the Music World category!!! But since the first single off their latest album has topped the charts for weeks, I decided to see what all the fuss was about.
This latest album supposedly represents an attempt by The Black Eyed Peas to break away from hip-hop, and appeal to a larger audience. In an interview with Billboard magazine, the band's singer/producer/songwriter, will.i.am (yes, that's how he spells it....don't ask, I don't know), claims that The END takes the group away from their traditional hip-hop style, and into a new era of electro-hop. (once again, don't ask...I don't know). He described the music as "a lot of dance stuff, real melodic, electronic, soulful. We call it, like, electric static funk, something like that". Uhhh, ok, whatever. (sometimes you gotta wonder)
However, personal opinions aside, The Black Eyed Peas must be doing something right, because their new album The END has already sold over 300,000 copies! The album's lead single, Boom Boom Pow, (released on March 10th) is the group's first chart-topper; and has been number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 11 consecutive weeks!!!! The song has a catchy and driving beat, if somewhat nonsense lyrics. I have heard some of the dance remixes, and I can see how the song might catch on in the nightclub circuit. The powerful rythm is definately easy to dance to.
Here is the album cover of The END......and I threw in a gratuitous sexy pic of Fergie; who, once again in my opinion, makes The Black Eyed Peas what they are. The second single to be released off the album is I Gotta Feeling (released June 16th).....and I gotta feeling I'm not gonna like it..... The song lyrics, which we will post separately, are even less imaginative than Boom Boom Pow; if that's even possible. In addition, this second song lacks the driving beat to be a club hit....but I'm sure some talented DJ will manage to mix in what it's lacking and make it fly. Overall, I'm still not real impressed with The Black Eyed Peas; despite their new "electro-hop" sound. (???)....but Stacy Ferguson is HOT!!! In fact, I think that Fergie would do better just going solo. Her 2006 album The Dutchess was better than anything The Black Eyed Peas have ever put out.
If you thought the songs were rough to listen to, try watching the videos!!! Looks like a bunch of clowns stroking their egos for 3 1/2 minutes. Should you be into that sort of thing, or you just feel like torturing yourself, (except for the occasional shots of Fergie, that is) here are the YouTube music videos; Boom Boom Pow first, then I Gotta Feeling. I take no responsibility for any psycological damage incurred from watching these videos .......
This is the first post in our new category called Music Technology: MP3 Players, Cellphones, and More! We created this category because along with the music we listen to, were interested in the devices we put it on. This first entry coincides perfectly with the release of the new Apple iPhone 3g S. Those of you that are familiar with the iPhone know that this device is far more than just a cell phone. It also searches the internet, and more importantly for us, is a full-on iPod Touch music player. We are not going to do a comprehensive review of the iPhone 3g S here. Rather, we are going to focus on the music related aspects of the device. If you are interested in reading a complete review of the newly released Apple iPhone 3g S, click HERE.
The next post in ourFree Music Related Wallpaper and Song Lyrics category includes three hot sexy wallpapers of Britney Spears.....including a wallpaper of the now infamous picture when Britney kissed Madonna onstage at the music awards!!! We are also including the song lyrics for the first three singles off Britney's new hit album Circus. If you would like a free download of the sexy Britney wallpaper above, click HERE
Yes, you heard right....Britney Spears is back on tour!!!!!! Now, I'm not necessarily a huge fan of Britney, but you have to admit that she does pump out some great dance songs on occassion....and besides, she's freakin' Super Sexy Hottttt!!!! That's why we've decided to create another new category called Sexy Ladies of the Music World. This category will contain reviews on sexy artists such as Britney, Madonna, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, and more. Britney's music falls into the Pop and Dance Music categories, but she definately falls into the Sexy Ladies category too!!! There are dozens of Dance Remixes for Britney Spears songs....but for the purposes of this review, we are going to focus on two of the original singles released from her latest album, Circus. If you would like more information on Britney Spears' music and concert dates then please visit her Official Website by clicking HERE
Another category that we've decided to add is Free Music Related Wallpaper Downloads and Song Lyrics. This is an additional service for our readers, and will offer links to free wallpaper downloads and/or song lyrics for music that we've reviewed elsewhere on the blog. So now, if you liked a song or band we reviewed, you don't have to search around for a wallpaper download or the song lyrics!!! ....ENJOY!!!
This is the first review in our new category called "Sex Sells: Music for Strippers". The title kind of speaks for itself, but just for clarification.....this category is going to spotlight songs that strippers love to dance to!!!! That's right, thousands of sexy ladies swinging on a stripper pole CAN'T be wrong!!!! Every now and then a song comes out that has just the right beat, bass line, and that special grinding rhythm that makes it perfect for... well, Stripping!!! Our goal in this category, Sex Sells, is to prove that a band can make the charts simply by finding that magic combination that strippers love. First in our series.....
WELCOME!!!!......I just took over Pop Musicology, and will be updating the blog and adding new content over the next few days. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or requests. My goal is to become the #1 music blog on Orble!!!.....
No, I agree...you certainly want to keep old posts for the search engines. But on an inactive blog you've taken over, that's basically old archived posts. Once you start posting new content and bringing in fresh hits, you would think that you've essentially taken the place of the old moderator that abandoned the old content for whatever reason. If someone new steps up and puts in the effort, common sense would say that the new moderator takes over the old moderator's position, right? Ah, well, perhaps I just spent too much time in the Florida sun today!!!
Morgan, I see you commented that we only get adsense revenue for posts we created, right? If you take over an inactive blog, I guess that would make sense in the beginning. But once you started bringing new traffic to the old blog, by posting new content, it would only seem fair that you got to take over the old moderators half of the profits, right?! I mean, Orble gets half anyway, and it seems excessive for them to keep 100% of the adsense profits for a blog that you are generating all the new content and traffic for, huh? Ah well, just a thought!!
Wow! Talk about a blast-from-the-past!!!! This song was so popular during the 80's, you couldn't turn on the radio without hearing it!!!! Good tune....
Great Review Ann!!! I just took over PopMusicology; and I love what you've done here at the Mafia!!! I'll be in touch...I see we have similar tastes in rock!!! ~
Ahhhh, you've obviously got a slight "Brit Rock" bias in your neck of the world! ....being from the USA, I can't forget the 80's "Hair Bands", as we call them!!! What about Motley Crüe, Skid Row, Ratt, Cinderella...and oh, who could forget Poison?!?!
Comment by DougW.
on Fergie and The Black Eyed Peas: The END.....we can only hope.
