Don't Start With A Definition
January 3rd 2008 19:54
Anybody who starts an essay/paper/article/whatever by defining a term, stop. Seriously. I'm not even joking. If I were to write this article by starting with a definition, it would go something like this:
"Incompetent is defined by Google.com as 'any person who, though not insane, is, by reason of old age, disease, weakness of mind, or any other cause, unable unassisted to properly meet requirements for a suited purpose.'"
Oh my gosh, look how bored you are already.
Start your paper off with something exciting. Something like "So there I was...I thought I was going to die..." See now that gets me interested. Now I want to know what happened. It can even go into some boring lame-o story about how you mis balanced your check book. You can make boring things exciting by spicing it up a bit. Like Emeril, BAM!
Also keep it short and sweet, like this.
It doesn't take four pages to get a point across.
BAM!
