Don't like dancing? or just too shy or don't know how to dance?

August 27th 2007 07:54

A lot of my friends, the guys, tell me they don’t like dancing. As I was wondering if it was a cultural thing, as in a lot of societies, like Africans and south Americans, boys and girls are addicted to rhythm, I began to observe them and ask myself questions.

How come your feet are moving with the rhythm of the music? Or that you are using your glass or the table as a drum? Why can’t you stay sill when you listen to this music?
The reality is, it’s not they dislike music or dancing.... It’s just they feel ridicules dancing, or they are too shy. A lot of them would probably do it at home, but not here, not in public. Conclusion, they are just afraid of been ridicules. While some try to get their beers inhibit them, other just stay watching the others having fun.

Are you among these people? Poor dancer? Shy? Afraid of what people may think?
If yes, this is an article for you!

First of all, do you know that girls like guys that like dancing especially if they are fond of partying! That is for the extra motivation.
But seriously if you are just too shy or if you find it awkward to dance in public, the only one that gets frustrated by the situation is you. So better start to act and change that.
If you are among the people who like music but think they are bad dancers, ask yourself why you think you are. Is it true?

Whether is it true or not I advice you to try alone at home or in your room. Chose a music you really like but one full of rhythm and energy. Clear a bit of space so you can move, close your eyes and just try to feel the rhythm; try to find the beat of the music. When this is done just let your body follow it.... don’t try to think about it, just have fun. Fun is really the key, if you are too concentrated of too serious your body is contracted, and it’s the opposite you need to relax. Try that several times, after that if you can try with a mirror in front that would be nice. Now that you feel a bit more comfortable you can see how you look like and try new moves! The really secret is to enjoy and have fun!

Now you have to defeat your shyness. How to do that? Big question! As a shy in the deep inside myself I know that it is quite hard. As none of my acquaintance can believe that I am shy or was once, I can say that I defeated it. And if I could do it, so could you.

My first advice would be to try first dancing with one or few of your friends, if they are in the same case of you that’s even better because you will not feel jugged. But whoever you are with just try with a couple of people, put some music and dance all together.

And little by little try to grow the number. And don’t forget if you are in a party just go for it, go in the middle of the dance floor you will be hidden by the other dancers, nobody will see you in the crowd. Force yourself to try just one dance, and before you know it will be two or three in the next party and pretty soon you will forget that once you wouldn’t even try. And you know what, next time you will try some other thing you never thought of, because now you already started to beat your shyness.

So, do you like dancing? Answer honestly!
