Does J. Smoove deserve max $$$

The Nets are looking to turn them selves into the mini-Hawks with attempts to get Josh Smith in a trade from Atlanta. Smith will be a free agent at season's end and probably will not re-sign with the Hawks. The main reason the team wants to get rid of him is because 1) They don't want to lose their star player for nothing. 2) They don't want to re-sign him for max dollars and have nothing to shop for players to surround him with 3) I Atlanta is ready to move forward.
Atlanta has put up good seasons since 2005. Which was cute at first because the franchise had been thirsty for the playoffs since the 90s. However after a while it got seeing the same recurring theme; first round win, second round demolishing.
Of course this pattern is not all Josh Smith's fault, but if he wants to be treated like a superstar and get max dollars in his next contract, then in my opinion he is highly responsible. Star players step their game up in the post season, and he has failed to do so.
Players like Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and a few other have started their legacy because what they have managed to do in the post season. Smith has had no break out post season performance or anything memorable in the playoffs except for a 43 point playoff loss......At home.
In order for Josh Smith to get max dollars, he needs to add more to his game. This season he's been playing very well but one season worth of improvement doesn't earn a player a max contract. He also needs to recognize that if he wants to go deep in the playoffs, whatever team he's on needs depth; to get depth the team needs cash; cash that will in a sense have to come out of his own pocket.
