Do you soul search?

August 28th 2010 15:43
Do you give yourself enough credit?

Many times when we do a life review we realize how much we have accomplished. Sometimes we can even see the good we have created and that gives us pride. Almost all of us do not give ourselves enough credit. We highlight our mistakes sometimes, and that drains all the life out of our living. A positive result of a life review is it can give you a more accurate picture of yourself, and have you feeling so much better about things that it puts some life back into your living. It feels great!

While its true some people if they're being really honest might see where they need to make changes it is still a very good thing, and not something to be avoided. It's never too late to make changes that will effect your energy for the better, and the self knowledge obtained from really looking within will give you a whole new insight and understanding of your own life.

I like walking and organizing my mind and thoughts. I delve sometimes into the "what" makes me tick, so I can understand more the "what" makes others tick. Sometimes I worry about "what" others think to my own detriment. I wonder how many others do that too? I'm sure many, because most of us care about others so much that we sometimes neglect ourselves a bit.

Soul searching allows you to nurture you and support your growth. It is something you can do just about anytime. I do real honest to goodness life reviews on secular new years, my birthday, and in September. September and back to school always remind me of new beginnings. These are logical choices but you can do it whenever. I think September is great because it lets me see to fulfilling my new years resolutions also.

A little something I picked up along the way is that when I wish to make a real change it is sometimes best to keep that to myself. I am more likely to keep a promise I've made to myself. I wonder if this is because we know most folks won't hold us to our resolutions (esp. those made at New Years), and so we easily lose our will. Whereas, when we secretly make a resolution with ourselves it becomes more a test of our will, and we do not want to lose. I wonder?

So, as September approaches I start making notes about things I'd like to change. I am very realistic, and so knowing I do this three times a year I only make one or two attempts at change. I spend time thinking about all the memories that have been added to my file cabinet (my brain) since the previous review, and I sort them out and review them. Sometimes things are thought of and put into our memory banks forever and other thoughts are left mulling around in our heads.

I believe it is these thoughts which are left mulling around in our heads that is our conscience (soul) trying to sort things out. I need to look at all these thoughts swirling around in my mind from all angles, or as if were a puzzle. Sometimes it is vital to sort it out for medical reasons. Your heart (spirit) can suffer terribly from unresolved issues. Unresolved issues and situations can exacerbate stress leading to serious medical consequences.

I really believe it is my life reviews (soul searches) that have kept me on track. If anyone has any opinions on this I'd love to discuss it. I'm hoping someone here may relate to what I have written.

Thanks for your comment on my recent post about writing success and failures.

I like your post and I agree with you, it's important to review your life every few months to get an honest picture of your development. If we don't know where we are going, how can we change direction or accelerate the journey?

I too like to walk and think. Too much soul searching in the past and, as you say, focusing on negatives, really did me in. So I just let my mind roll on towards the future now, where I want to be and how to get there.
