Do you like to play with fire?
Monday again tick ... tock ... tick ... tock ... To say that I get bored easily is probably one of the biggest understatements of the century. To say that I despise monotony comes in tie with the previous statement. So the fact that my week consists of the same thing, with the same people, with the same conversations is a recipe for disaster.
Everyone has a wild side... or a playful side, depending how you like to look at it. Mine was denied for so many years that when it eventually came to the surface it wrecked havoc and we had some good (and rather hairy) experiences together.
It was around the time when 'fun' ran very close to becoming involved with the police that I decided perhaps I needed to change my group of friends and put a lid on the wild side. Easier said than done because once you unleash the monster it can be quite difficult to tame.
Which leads me to now having my 'moments'. Instead of letting the monster have free reign and later having to regret it, I just take a 'moment'. Generally this involves very little logical thought, absolute minimal planning and lasts for as long as I deem necessary to let the monster be sated without losing control completely. (Having financial commitments and a steady job always plays quite an important role in these decisions too!)
I said to my sister over the weekend, 'Let`s do something exciting!' to which she replied, 'Ok let`s go on a wine tour on Saturday.'
Yeah.... see that is NOT A 'MOMENT'. That is a DAY TRIP. That is something that any group of girls may decide to do as an afternoon of giggling and gurting to a place where you can go on any given day, not to mention a place where we have been countless number of times now. In my books there is nothing remotely involving a 'moment' in such a choice.
'Well, how about we go to Vanuatu in January. See we can go to the Travel Agents and....' were her next words. Definitely NOT a 'moment' and although a nice idea, it involves planning and preparation.... yawn. Besides, Vanuatu in JANUARY? Hot comes to mind!
It has been a while since I have had a decent 'moment' adventure. The time has come again. Wine Trips and beach holidays to Vanuatu do not fall into that category. I can feel as each day closes the urge coming over and soon, unable to resist the urge, I shall take my 'moment'.
So do you have 'moments' ? What do you do when you feel like you just need to let your hair down and walk on the wild side for a bit? Do you like a little bit of fire in your life now and again?

As a former pyromaniac ...
I'll tell you right now. I stay at home. All the time. Everyone I used to know thinks (believes) I'm crazy for living like I do now, but let me out of my room for an hour and let someone even as tenth as crazy as I am to suggest something crazy to me? I'd only do it just for the hell of it.
It seems to me that the 'life of the party guy/gal' is only there for the benefit of those sanctimonious / holier-than-thou souls who want to go back into the office on Monday and say, "At least I didn't do what he/she did!"
Well okay, fair enough. I love hyprocritical gossip merchants. Not. So they didn't have any real fun. So they slept with the guy/gal they can't stand at work out of sheer desperation, and no-one found out about it?
At least I did something.
I think you get the drift.
I only venture outside the back door on Monday nights. It's BIN night. I take the Bin Laden with rubbish out. It's my contribution to the anti-terrorism movement.
David ...
I sure hope this comment doesn't get tagged by the FBI or CIA.

I know just how you feel. I'm usually pretty sensible. But I have this need every now and then to do things that might seem a bit crazy or illogical. I figure I have a good job, I work hard, I now have a mortgage. Basically I'm a responsible adult (I used to be a responsible teenager). But sometimes you need to just let your hair down. I don't think I've done anything super crazy, but I have my moment.
I got a tattoo at 19, my tongue pierced at 26. I've taken more than my share of drugs. Gone swimming in the beach in May in Melbourne (FYI....it's f**king freezing) after drinking all day. And god forbid if someone actually encourages me! I "need" to do something just a bit different and spur of the moment. Just to remind myself I'm not a boring grown up
Enjoy your 'moment' when it comes round

Good to 'see' you!
Oh I so know what you mean by "moments"...and yes, wine tours and Vanuatu trips are not moments...they're momentoes...
I think, as one gets older and therefore more aware of responsibility (...urgh...), one doesn't play with fire so much as stoke it...
Just thinking of the things that I used to do, DDH used to do, friends used to do when we were younger makes me...a little scared and in awe of of the sense of immortality and invincibilty we all have when we're younger.
Age, unfortunately, shall weary them....but only Physically.
We are all earth, wind and fire (no, not the band..!)...we need to stay grounded...we need to fly...and we need to fire up.
In equal measure.
I/we get our 'moments' from physical things...snowskiing, waterskiiing, boating, Rugby, tequila shots...er, how'd that get in there?......jumping off the top of waterfalls ...for me, it's all about what one 'ads' to life...adventure, adrenaline, admiration, adoration, adaptation...
Carpe diem-ber!!
You are an adventurer Ash. We can all 'see' that.
...can't wait to read what urge spins you away on your next moment...
hugs hon...other than restless, I hope you are well...

I'm hope I'm going to have one in the next couple of weeks, because when the feeling comes on next time, I think I'm going to get a tattoo!
Is that the kind of thing you mean?

Your entire comment cracked me up... because I would expect nothing less from someone who has such a passion for fireworks.
hahahahahaha!
Yeah it`s a bit sad when people think they are perfect... so much life they miss out on in that way.
It`s Tuesday now you must feel quite proud that you did your bit last night to keep us all safe. Jobe well done!
thanks for the comment and laugh

ooooohh tat's are always good, hopefully it was one you didn`t regret. I have been so close but can never decide what I want. I did go through the piercing thing though... at one stage I had 11 on various parts of my body - they become addictive... but thankfully can always be painlessly removed.
It`s just got to be done ya know?! As you say a reminder that we aren`t boring adults. Thanks for the heads up re: swimming in May in Melb - I reckon I may just give that one a miss!

Good to 'see' you too! I`m so glad someone else GETS this...
I loved waterskiing.... not that I was very good mind you... kinda skiied on my face instead of my feet! I see it`s all about the A's....
I suppose when you have kids you also calm down a little too - being responsible for another life and all. I know I switch mode when I have kids around and they aren`t even mine.
The urge is strong... it needs to be sated... it`s just a case of when it will strike
I am well thanks and I hope you are too

No need for apologies - I`m taking that to mean that you are blissfully happy with the way things are going? Good on ya!

I live with a monster too Ash. I am that monster, I just keep it tightly under the skin. If anyone saw it.....
Solution? Live like David. Kman and I went to the movies on Sun, first time in a year.....Damn, it was funny. I was just waiting for someone to say "You dont get out much, do you?" It was pretty obvious we like it at home....

no not boring - just content with the way things are maybe?
hahahaha! yes I was fortunate enough to grow up in a country where the dollar meant more than the law so we never really had to worry about underage drinking - as long as you shelled out the cash for the grog you were sorted!
have a good week!

ahhh I love the world too much to stay at home, I find the walls claustrophobic. I can`t even stay in bed for too long.
When I was in England last year I used to play with the candles every night when we all gathered in the garden. I love the feel of dripping melted wax onto my fingers and hands and letting it dry whilst being mesmerised by the flames. My form of meditation... I should get back into that actually!
What movie did you go and see?

I feel 'ya sister. My moments when I feel "wiggly" are usually sated by travel. (hence the wanderlust moniker).. next town, next state, whatever.... If that isn't possible I run or workout, if that isn't possible I clean! Great post and comments!

Oh man I can SOOOOO return your 'feel ya sister' emotions in the travelling front. The world offers so much for us and we tend to hide away behind our four walls. There is nothing quite like the open road, no agenda and all the thrill of excitement in the air!!!!!
I agree there have been some great comments!
