Do you ever stop to REALLY look? And then FEEL?
'Do you ever feel like the world is on your shoulders?'
he asked as he walked away.
His shoulders looked strong and I laughed,
to myself,
What did he know?
But I had not walked a mile in his shoes,
not even tried them on for size, in fact,
and let the unsmiling eyes hide behind
the glowing teeth, deceive me.
'Can you spare some change please young one?'
the vodka-tainted breath pleaded.
Gums bared a single tooth, black
with the passage of time and too many
cigarettes to count.
Look at that dirty man.
But I forgot the times the fingers of despair
wrapped their tight clutch around
my throat and squeezed back the air
from my soul.
The wind rustles the leaves, the branches sway
the water bubbles, gurgles, chokes...
It must be good to hold your head so high,
to have a birds eye view of
the mere mortals that scurry,
like ants
beneath your feet.
he asked as he walked away.
His shoulders looked strong and I laughed,
to myself,
What did he know?
But I had not walked a mile in his shoes,
not even tried them on for size, in fact,

Oh, you mean homeless people. Nope. Sorry. Am cynical and hearless, but not so much that I don't love your poems!

*sighing* as usual, beautiful ... and a little, tangy.
It reminded me of a song by Shaun Mullins about watching the Sun setting into the Ocean with this old tramp he met on route... I'll play it for you one time.
The thing about stopping to smell the roses, is the funny looks you get from people, stares even ... like you must be certifiable or something? Even in malls, crowds will gather where you stop to look and experience.
Lovely to have you back.

I'm often amazed at how quick people are to judge others. A lot of the time they are actually doing the same, yet when it`s them it`s ok. Really angers me!

It`s interesting to see how people deal with what is thrown their way in life.

ahhh Shawn Mullins is great isn`t it? I hope you managed to catch him at the festival last year? he was GREAT! Now that song would be right up my alley, I`ll have to seek it out sometime.
I can`t help but stopping to smell the roses... and looking at their intricate beauty... and i don`t really care what other people think of it either. When they start living my life then they can comment on it!
Good to be back too Lilla

It`s hanuting for too - i can`t stand to see how judgemental people are when they look at someone and automatically DECIDE that the person in question is not worth the bother. No one knows what road that person has travelled

what a rewarding job - I used to be surrounded by homeless people and it broke my heart to see how they were treated. Very sad that some people are so up themselves!
