Guess who's coming to dinner!
October 15th 2006 22:26
The Cast,
Mum, Dad, Robbo and April, Nana and Pa, through the window, 2 teenagers.
[The setting, Home, at our place]
"There you go Mum, we're here".
"Oh, I feel a little breathless, think I'll have to sit down".
Sure, Mum.
[Mum sits down]
Mum, you really ought to get out and walk more!
I know, son, I know!
April, (3) comes over and gives Nana a kiss.
Robbo bursts in, Hi, Nan.
Where's your mother - she's in the kitchen, from Robbo.
Don't worry, Mum, she'll come and say hello soon.
April," look at my dollie, I just put her new clothes on"
Robbo, yeah, all she does is play dolls, he turns a somersault on the floor, then, with a yell, goes into a Karate pose.
Look, look, look, [pushes April aside] She starts to cry.
There, there,
She's such a baaabiee!
She's only 3 dear.
Son, this boy really is too rough in the house.
Oh, come on Mum, he's a boy.
So were you dear, and I never let you do that!
Everyone sits down.
Nan, dad's gunna get me an ipod for Christmas!
That's nice dear.
Mum, you do know what an ipod is, don't you?.
Oh, [wearily] some gadget, I suppose.
Oh, well, I guess you'll see it at Christmas.
I thought presents were supposed to be a surprise.
Yeah, and April still believes in Santa Claus, says, Robbo, giggling.
Mum, I want to show you something on the computer.
Not this epod thing is it?
No, no,no, come into the other room with us.
All right.
She struggles to get up.
Mum, you must lose a little weight.
I know dear, I know.
Now Mum, turn the computer on.
What for?
I just want to show you something.
Can't you do it?
No, I want you to.
I don't know anything about computers.
Just switch it on Mum.
How?
First the power.
It won't blow up will it?
She switches on the power.
It's not doing anything.
Now, Mum, switch the computer on.
Where?
This button, here, Mum.
What do I do with it?
Push it in.
O.K. the computer lights up and an image comes onto the screen.
Oh, that's nice, tulips. Is that what you wanted me to see?
No, just wait a minute and I'll show you something!
There, what do you think of that?
Well, I don't know, it's some pattern I suppose.
We do that at school Dad.
Now Mum, I'm going to get you to do it, come over here April.
April sits up on daddy's knee.
Robbo leans across not wanting to miss out on anything.
This is called Microsoft Paint Mum.
Oh, yes, do you want me to take up painting now? I never could draw.
No, Mum, now just move the mouse.
I can't see any mouse on the screen.
Not on the screen, right there near your hand.
Is this it?
Yes, what do I do with it?
Dad demonstrates.
Nan tries it.
That's right. You're getting the hang of it, now move the cursor.
Where's that?, looking around the desk.
No, on the screen.
Cursor goes everywhere.
Robbo, I'll do it.
April, let me, let me.
Robbo let April. He guides her hand and says click, doing it for her.
Want to draw a circle?
I want a balloon.
OK, he draws some semblance of a balloon.
Where's the balloon?
Right here, what colour do you want?
Pink
Now Mum, colour it in.
Where's the pencils dear?
On the screen.
But there's nothing there.
No, not on top of the screen, on the screen.
Look, he guides her hand and clicks several places.
It looks like a small watering can hovers over his balloon.
Ready?
He pushes her finger and the pink fills the balloon
Oh, it's just like magic.
Mum, you've just had your first computer lesson.
Oh, I hope it's the last.
Robbo's Mum comes in from the kitchen.
Hi, Nan, I just had to keep cooking. As soon as Dad comes in, we'll eat.
Mummy, a pink balloon.
Yes, I think I've got one somewhere. She goes out!
As they retun to the lounge she brings out a pink balloon.
Blow it up for April, Robbo.
He huffs and puffs,
Not too much, it'll break,
Robbo laughs.
Here's a piece of string
Dad ties it up and all go outside.
Screams and laughter flow in as April runs around, singing,
I've got a balloon, I've got a balloon.
Mum walks around the garden and looks at the flowers.
Presently they go back inside.
Here's Pa, here's Pa
Pa comes in the door.
Hi, everyone, how're things?
Nan's been on the computer yells Robbo.
Bless me, I must be in the wrong house.
Nan looks out the window.
Who are those teenagers?
They're from next door Mum.
Really?, they seem to have grown up all of a sudden. He looks ridiculous, what's he done with his hair?.
Well, Mum, teenagers, you know.
No, I'm afraid I don't. She's got hardly any clothes on ... looks like a tart.
All smile indulgently. Then all sit down to eat!
Just making conversation!

MS Paint Art
Thanks Justina,
It's not my first time, and I've no need to learn the real thing although it might be fun to just play with.
Let's see some of your stuff using firstly paint and then the real thing! I think, darling,
you've missed the point.
But all views are welcome and perhaps next time you'll do a little reading, too,
and where's your nana and Pa? Computer literate are they? and what about their parents? and
how has your brain exercise been going lately, some more connections might be helpful.
None the less, I'm really happy to see your bright little face, you seem to have some relatives on Orble.
And thank you so much for introducing me to the names photoshop and illustrator, was it?
I'm sorry, I forget!
Could you send me a picture? A picture is worth a thousand words as I recollect,
correct me if I'm wrong!
