Different Journeys
I trace your name with rose petals
On the glassy surface of the water,
Try to catch the ripples while they run
And pretend the flower will always be alive.
I build a glass wall between us with a frame
Around your heart so I can throw stones at you
And watch you shatter into the wind
I stare at the photo through watery eyes
To see a kaleidoscope of your beauty
And try to push the colours back to their place
As with each tear they begin to run off the page.
To touch the pen that wrote such a story
Would only make the ink run out on the page
Into messy blots and incoherent jumbles
Of letters that spell our destinies in foreign words.
The video camera plays on the TV screen
With the sound turned low, for surely to hear
Your voice would only make what was forgotten
Once, remembered again and shatter the silence.
I missed the train, the last one out the station
But I sent my final kiss to chug across the landscape
And carry to you on clouds of steam
Our journeys will forever run on different lines.

Beautiful work. I particuarly liked:
Of letters that spell our destinies in foreign words.
Such great imagery of destiny that is so close, but has a 'near miss' everytime its almost within your grasp.

This is the type of poetry I like.
David ...

Indeed - two lines running together that so many times nearly cross, but invariably dart off at the last moment. C'est la vie!
Thank you

I feel this on so many levels. This part especially stood out to me:
Would only make the ink run out on the page
Into messy blots and incoherent jumbles
Of letters that spell our destinies in foreign words.
The more we reach, the farther away it seems; the more we try to understand, the more confusing it becomes.
Beautiful expressions.

Great to see you, I hope that all is going well in Wendiland.
Never a truer word spoken Wendi! It is so frustrating at times when you work so hard to get somewhere just for it to be dragged further away.
