Desert boots = Hot. High-heeled ankle boots = Not.

The fashion mags have been pushing ludicrous spike-heeled booties on us for a few seasons. Unfortunately, they look good on absolutely nobody—not the catwalk models, not the young girls with perfect legs I see teetering into the local, and MOST DEFINITELY NOT on older ladies or women with short, fat, or bowed legs. High-heeled booties are just barely acceptable worn with trousers, but an absolute no-no under a skirt or dress, as they shorten the leg. They are also just plain ugleeeeeeeeeee. Here’s hoping they go they way of way-oversized sunnies.
Desert boots, at least the ones that don’t bear a suspicious resemblance to Hush Puppies, are a welcome confluence of fashion and comfort. I’m wearing my new pair of black suede Rossi Desert Boots (bought over the internet) and absolutely love them. They’re featured in a recent issue of one of the better fashion mags, AND on a webpage called “All Things Bogan”, so they must be all right. One of my young friends assures me that all the trendy types at TAFE are wearing them. Best of all, they don’t make walking painful, unlike those stupid booties.
