The Wayfinders

June 16th 2008 19:42
and it comes to me in flashes
this vision as it passes
of the way my world should be
if only I were to make it so

If I were to capture
that fleeting human actor
as he passes on his way
to here and fro

I believe I'd see him laughing
smelling roses and startling
from the beauty that surrounds him
as he goes about his world

but I sit here in his wake
determined that I might make
the same steps in the path
which he had trodden through my ashes

I know a man

June 15th 2008 20:35
I know a man and he wants the world to be a better place

but the world is beautiful
and the sunset rises over the ocean
with the coulds
and the earth won't stop turning
and the sunset won't stop rising
and the beauty in the world will never cease

and he wants to know what love means

but the world is full of love
and a baby's smile rises over the mountains
with his cheeks
and the world won't stop loving
and the smile won't stop rising
and the love in the world will never cease

but some people are not living in a beautiful world
living in a night time devoid of dreams
in a dreamworld devoid of laughter
by a stream in the meadow in your idyllic mind
the world cries
as we dump our lies into the seas
as we plough our fields in spite
of the night which is descending on us all

take me with you
when you go to check your seeds
when you go to learn to find
that maybe
just maybe
this young tyrant will take heed
to the world that has whispered its name
in quiet memory
of the time when all the heartache will ebb away
when the heart that shines through our dreams
will leave this field of shmashed up leaves
and take us soaring through our destiny

the new ape society

March 23rd 2008 03:12
In the new ape society much communication was done with sounds, especially through the use of language

Through the use of language, thought could be converted with unprecedented clarity into a form which could enter the mind of another ape. However, it is very important to note that this conversion of thought into sounds is only considered appropriate when used as communication with other apes. There are very few circumstances under which it is considered appropriate for one to pronounce the language in one's head out loud. This is refered to as "talking to one's self" and is often considered as a sign of insanity, the lowest social rank assignable.

Time and Energy:

January 4th 2008 12:46
Our entrance into the history of the universe shall come when we defeat our sun. Granted this will only be as a footnote, if we get no further, but it will be the first act of ours worthwhile recording.

If we are to mean anything in this world, we are to play by the rules of energy and time. These are the only rules worth playing by. This is to play in the game that is played in every corner and on every scale of this universe. But we insist in playing other games, convinced of our own self-worth, we sling mud at eachother and vie for control of those who are not yet even conscious

the need

December 22nd 2007 13:44
What do I want to express? I want to express exactly what I want to hear. That way, if there is someone out there who thinks the same as I do, they will think its awesome.

What do I really want to hear? I want to hear people say, I can see it, we've all had our minds messed with, we are not free, we are not ourselves, we are not real, we are not the real us, we have been brainwashed. An entire system was in place to send us messages, usually in order that we would want to buy things. But in passing on this message, was also a formula as to how to live our lives, what to expect in the future, the whole 'work sucks but we all accept that that's just how society works

It is a futuristic dystopia. There is no life except for human life, the planet is dead. There is no sun. We block it all. We require the use of 100% of the sunlight to power our civilization. It's a drab colourless world. Totally. The buildings are all square and shit with all the exact same greyish coloured walls. Everything is in straight uncomplicated square shapes. people mill about in colourless body suits which take care of all their bodily functions. Including moving their muscles, running their digestive system, all that shit. The energy powering this suit also takes into account your energy intake from food, and this is how it is decided how much of the work is being done by your biological body and howmuch by the suit, it's all one big system. Most people don't eat food, it is considered a novelty to eat a meal, many do it for "cultural" reasons (much like the way a tourist in india might have taken a yoga lesson in the 02000's).

The people, however, inhabit an exciting, bubbling and alive world. The walls are ablaze with neon colours, everything is tagged and labbeled, they are living in an augmented reality, but it is the internet. But everybody inhabits a slightly different world. There is no reality as to what is going on in the "real world". There is no real world. Politics, culture, news, jobs, the state of the world. It's different in all of them, people are not sure what the level of sharedness is at exactly, but one can assume that one will share 50% worldfeatures with 50% of the people one meets (however, this is widely believed to be skewed by the growing five sects/cultus whose members all inhabit absolutely identical worlds, they each claim to different extents to be a collective consciousness, the next stage in evolution, a spiritually transcendent being) For the rest of the population

Oh my gosh! comments on my blog! thanks for your responses guys.

I've been trying to get into reading more than one book at a time, but I'm not sure if its for me. I had the idea of reading one fiction and one non-fiction, so my fiction book currently is Dharma Bums, but I'm only at the very beginning. I also am still finishing off Dennett's Sweet Dreams, where he proves once again that he has such clarity and level-headedness that makes most other contemporary philosophers look like they are just monkeying around with fanciful views on irrelevant thought experiments

on Understanding the internet - coherent version

Yeah, the double edged sword is basically the best metaphor for modernity, definitely one of my faves.

But what's interesting about the internet, is it is at peace with its double edgedness. Or moreover it is omni-edgedness. It intentionally serves all purposes, whether they be traditionally thought of as good or bad.

Yes! Awesome! I've been thinking this for a while, and I haven't found anyone who agrees. It's so obviously the way things are heading.

In terms of whether it willl be radical conformity or infinite difference, I think we might find that these concepts are the best we can think of from our vantage point but the reality will be neither. But it will have the essential elements of both. It will be the synthesis of difference and conformity.

parallel existences maybe?

If I had to pick one it would have to be Jeff Buckley - Grace.

but seeing as we're not only naming one, I'd have to add:
Radiohead - OK Computer
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
Led Zeppelin - IV
The Polyphonic Spree - Together We're Heavy

Thanks for your encouragement, no matter how guised you feel you must present it.

Although, I have no intention of becoming what other people want. Like I said at the start, I stopped writing in this because I felt it was disrupting my thought patterns. However, when i do some thinking, I sometimes like to write some stuff down, take some notes, it helps me keep track of my thoughts, but I don't slow down my thoughts to let the writing catch up. I figured it couldn't hurt to post what I write, but I write it for myself and I'm not forcing anyone to read it. I never tried to present it as a polished essay let alone a clear train of thought, and I tried to add a little caveat at the top. I spend enough energy translating myself into other people's languages at uni and at work. Anyway, I'm glad it evoked a response.

ps. It's a bit much to be making assumptions about whether or not I am wasting my education and/or mind or about my 'failure to launch yourself successfully into lifes mainstream'. You can't seriously believe that you know anything about me, can you? Some of my ideas, maybe...

Why do i feel like i need to apologize for that, well i do.

Anyways, i just wanted to say that the image of being pushed in a very light way that makes you change your mind on your own, because its a nice persuasion, and where that can lead if it escalates and you continue to push is an image that i have not been able to get out of my head for the past few days, I saw it in Akira Kurosawa's Dreams (Yume). It's the third clip and its really quite a meaningful image, if not only beautiful. Good stuff.

on Jung: Spiritual Pathology

May 11th 2007 17:46
I like it.

In a sense the spiritual path is one you must travel on your own. Others have travelled it before. And others may be there to help you on your journey. But the journey is essentially yours.

Anyone who is not on a spiritual path who seeks to be your guide, or whom you seek out to be your guide, can never be your guide. They will treat you. Not only will they not help you on your path, they will see it as their job to help you return to the staus quo.

Anyone who is on a spiritual path will not seek to be your guide. They will seek to be your partner.

Thus, while the path is one of an essentially indivual nature, it is characterised at the same time as one of partnership and brotherhood.

The medicalisation of therapy is not a surprise on an institutional level. But it is interesting on an individual level. It is strange to think that so many therapists are not thinking in spiritual terms. Why else have they chosen to do that with their life?

Well, that was a bit of a rant, but I guess therapy is not any different from anything else, of course there are others like you, but those who are not on a spiritual path will always care more about the institution.

on Jung: Our True Nature

May 10th 2007 15:21
I really like the ideas you bring up and the elloquence with which you express them.

I agree with what you say, but I am left wondering "but what else is there?" How do we realise our full potential? Take the example of how we interact with others:

the mind will manufacture conceptual identities for everybody one meets, a bundle of concepts that you mistake for who that human is. We believe we are relating to another human being, but we are actually relating to our thoughts about that human being.

It is important that we recognise this, but how else are we to relate to others?

I agree that the image I have of myself is just the narrative based on what I have done, what I think, what I own, etc. All conditioned by my culture, surroundings, genetics, experiences, etc. But what else am I if I not the unique and intricate sum of my inheritance and my experiences? My unique position in history, my unique position in relation to the people with whom i surrond myself?

What does Jung say? Once we get enough perspective to realise how we construct our self image and our image of those around us, where to next? Can we transcend to a higher or better understanding? Or is it breaking the spell and having this more genuine understanding that is the goal?
