Delhi Belly is a Superhit

According to official figures, Aamir Khan's Productions movie Delhi Belly has received a successful response all over India and abroad. After its second week, the film has already covered its cost and broughts outstanding figures for the distributors. This is yet another success for Aamir Khan Production house following the Blockbuster and Oscar nominated movie Lagaan, superhit Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, award winning movie Taare Zameen Paar and the two critically acclaimed movies namely Peepli Live and Dhobi Ghat.

Coming back to Delhi Belly was was released last week, it had an excellent first week of 36.50 crore nett. The film did very well in Mumbai, Delhi/Up and East Punjab while Mysore was excellent. Delhi Belly may emerge a Super Hit depending on what happens over second weekend. It also beat the other blockbuster movie of the year Ready in numerous places including Mysore.
Abroad as well Delhi Belly did well in its opening weekend overseas. North America and UAE collected very well. The North America opening was best of 2011. It collected around $1.6 million from all markets which is INR 7.25 crore. Delhi Belly managed an extensive release in Overseas. The collections from the major markets for first weekend are as follows:

United Kingdom - £156,000
North America - $600,000
UAE - $400,000
Australia - Aus $150,000


In its second week despite the release of the sequel of Murder, Murder 2 which had a humungous start at the box office, Delhi Belly had a solid second weekend of 10.25 crore nett. The ten day business of the film is near 46.25 crore nett approx. The film is phenomenal in Mysore while Mumbai, Delhi/UP and East Punjab are also very good.

The approx second weekend breakdowns were 2.50 crore nett on Friday, 3.65 crore nett on Saturday and 4.10 crore nett on Sunday.

The drop from first weekend is just 51%. Delhi Belly should end its second week with collections of around 52 crore for two weeks but it may slow in week three as the new release Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara has the same target audience as Delhi Belly.

Producer, actor and director Aamir Khan has proved himself to be among the biggest brand in India and even in the world considering that total initial investments has reaped huge benefits with over $60Bn over the last ten years since his home production was created. He is seen by his peers as one of the most successful showman in the indian film industry and it will not be an outrage to say that he even beat the likes of the great Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar. His current competitors namely Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are very far behind him both in terms of revenue generation and popularity. It can rightly be said that currently Aamir Khan is in the number 1-10 spot in the film industry with all his colleagues being relegated to the 11th and so on spot!!
