Decluttering equals clarity of mind...

Have you ever had this experience?
There's a small project you need to get done at home. It could be something as simple as going through the week's mail - no, not the email, the snail mail... or it could be the old dresser that you planned to redo, with paint stripper or the sander, sand paper, paint, lacquer (or whatever you fancy).
Then "life" happens - you have to move house, or your employment changes and family situations take over and one thing happens, after another... and life just keeps happening... so much so that the mail piles up, and only the essential bills are paid, but the paperwork forms a collection in the spare room or on the office desk, and that old piece of furniture stays old and before long you probably find another piece that you are convinced you'll do up...
And overall, nothing ever changes... except that you've accumulated a backlog of odd jobs and tasks that just never ever get done.
Here's the thing - and you might need to think about this for a while:
Have you noticed how motivated or enthused you are about your life, or aspects of your life?
Really "noticed" how your levels of enthusiasm wax and wane rather than maintain at decent levels?
Think about this.
Over the last 4 years in my life, I have moved house 3 times (one move lasted 3 weeks, another 11 months, and now recently 3yrs).
Prior to my first major move - where I had been living in one place for 5.5yrs and decided to move interstate - I foresaw that I would sort through all the growing paperwork, and the furniture restoration when I moved to the new address.
It was a real blow when the address turned out to be HORRIBLE and I had to throw basics back into boxes, pack and move all over again.
Much of my stuff had to stay in boxes in a garage or in my bedroom at the next address, because I had to move in with someone to share.
It was NOT ideal.
I didn't bother dealing with any of the "stuff" then.
So, eleven months later when I chose to move to the city, I kept the "stuff" and vowed that I would sort it when I moved.
Hah!
For reasons that I won't detail, three years past, and I accumulated more old furniture and that pile of papers built up to become 5 boxes and 6 bags - and that is with my own personal shredder to use.
This all matters because of one observation:
The more "clutter" and "stuff" there is to do, the more overwhelmed, unfocused, and slack I feel.
In the past week including this weekend, I have finally found my energy to tackle all the outstanding tasks... it's leading to a sense of clarity, calmness and the ability to begin to foresee my immediate future with greater focus.
I have had the lawns front, back and nature strip mowed, the weeds done and more weeds to be cleared next week... I have someone to do the cat run that needs repair and replacement, and I FINALLY got to work on my office.
When I moved in here three years ago, boxes just ended up wherever.
The office space, while having mostly functional presentation, was also too cluttered and untidy and never ever resembled the home office I wanted it to be.
TODAY is far different.
I recently had the old carpets professionally cleaned, and I finally cleared out all the non-office "stuff", taken out of the office and sorted into different rooms.
The office now has the desk and only a few things otherwise.
I am getting rid of old books, giving away things...
I have the boxes and bags of "stuff" to sort through - this will end up being recycled, shredded, or put in the rubbish bin.
I have a room that has "stuff" in it too... it is just an accumulation of "stuff" that has cluttered my life and my mind.
Now I am really excited about my future, because once I regained my energy to DO things, I actually regained a sense of clarity and the feeling that really great things can now happen in my future - because I have begun making room for them...
I have decluttered my life and my mind, and as a result my energies are becoming more clear and my sense of commitment to get things done is really happening.
I can't wait to see what exciting things can now happen in my life.
The experience of decluttering really has helped to clear my mind, and I have no doubt you could experience the same sense of clarity when you declutter your own world.
Let me know how you go.
