Deceptive Dreams

December 20th 2006 03:07
Dreams are a constant force in the supernatural progression of people and their beliefs. Ever since the first person began to think their dreams were something extraordinary, something mystical, they have been a constant factor for people to define themselves. In the modern era dreams are no longer as significant in people’s lives as they were throughout human history, but to some they still are very meaningful. To some dreams are powerful forces foretelling future events wither in detail or on some abstract level. To others they are messages of the subconscious mind telling of our most inner fears, desires, and hopes. Others believe they are merely subconscious portraits of a person’s imagination.

I am not past believing that dreams are of some significance in a person’s life. I do believe that they can help a person find out more about who they really are. I admit having been startled on several occasions of the almost perfect symmetry between my dreams and actual life. Most of the time I attribute to lack of clear memory of what the dream actually was and a desire to have something that separates me from what is average. A few instances when this has happened I began to plan to write doing my dreams as they happened, a dream journal of sort, but at the times I actually remember what I had dreamed I am too tired and lazy to follow through. There is one recent dream I had that is still vivid in my memory:

Standing in the middle of a field with a cluster of trees to one side and stacks of giant hay bails on the other, I happen to look up at the sky. Instead of seeing a blue sky with scattered puffy clouds I see a sky of a radiating magenta color with a bluish background. It is indescribable in any other words but those. I could have stared at that extraordinary site for hours but out of nowhere I feel a hand grab my shoulder. I quickly turn to see a beautiful woman with ash brown hair and eyes colored with a mix of gray, brown, and blue.

“Hurry, they’re coming,” she says as she points into the trees. I look in that direction and see a group of four running full speed at us. I momentarily freeze trying to figure out were I am at and what is going on only to be melted by the woman tugging on the front of my shirt.

We run over and start climbing up the stacks of hay bails (these were no ordinary hay bails; they were about the height of a semi trailer and about half the length at smallest). As we near the top of the stack I look back to see our pursuers halfway across the field, almost exactly in the spot we were previously standing. They suddenly stop, turn, and run the other way. Briefly I try to figure out their action only to see nothing else but Mammoths stampeding through the field. They were huge and that’s an understatement. They made the elephants at a carnival look like dwarfs.

Once again I am drawn out of my gaze by my companion. We finish scaling the stacks and start running across the top of the pile to ensure our escape. The next thing I know we hit a soft spot in the bails and fall into the stacks. The next thing I know we are standing in a boxed room, no larger than a walk in closet, with no windows or doors to escape from. The room is empty besides my partner and I and a strange, shimmering blue glow in one of the corners.

We stay in the room not knowing what to do next. I even try to walk into the blue glow assuming that was our point of entrance, but nothing happens. Hour seem to pass until our pursuers enter through the glow. The first one through the light draws a knife from his hip and lunges at me. I quickly dodge the initial strike…

That was when I woke up. I think the only reason I am able to remember this dream so vividly is that it was so bizarre compared to my normal dreams that I couldn’t get it out of my head all day. I still can’t rationalize where this dream come and don’t really think I need to. All I can say about it is that if that happens to be a future prediction some things are going to radically change in the world.

Only once before had I had a dream that remained so vividly in my mind. When I was a child I had reoccurring dreams of giant lions chasing me through the local mall. I always ended up being saved by a family member right outside of KB toys for some reason though.

Some people think that everything in a dream stands for something. I don’t know enough about dream interpretation to even ponder what some of mine may stand for, but I don’t think it would matter too much anyway. From what I do understand about interpreting dreams is that most parts of a dream are symbolism which have a tendency to be unique to a person and/or culture.
